PhD candidate, 20thc Euro-American & Native American Gothic lit/film enthusiast, 110% always ready to fistfight Ronald Reagan in hell. Opinions my own. she/her
Hoping to take on a little more freelance/tutoring work in the coming months, so I made a website with my qualifications, research output, and contact info. Just in case anyone here needs tutoring, consultation, or copy editing help! ☺️

Getting emails about viva preparation and external examiners for my thesis all while waiting on my loans, which are late, to come in so I can do retail therapy and buy spooky Halloween things
@CoopeyLouise Thank you!! I submit in December so it’s definitely crunch time, but focusing on something less frustrating in the editing process would be good. 😖 Congrats on being done soon!! Hang in there! 💕
People who have completed a PhD thesis: was there a point where, 4+ drafts in, you just didn’t like what you were saying anymore? Structure feels bad/repetitive/not enough detail or wrong detail? How did you get past this or deal with this feeling?
Officially at the “I can do this no longer” stage of the thesis. The intro, specifically, is fucking killing me. I don’t know how I’m supposed to prioritise any of this information when it appear it ALL needs to go into 6,000 words.
This is not to say my supervisors think this, but to let everyone know that I have no outlet for my rage and at some point it’s gonna be a problem for someone else too
It’s on sight for the next person at a conference that somehow implies or outright states that strains of Indigenous horror don’t belong in Gothic Studies. I will give them the biggest wedgie the world has ever seen.
@alyssaharad We read A TIDEWATER MORNING by William Styron in my high school English class the year after my mom was killed in a car accident. Its depiction of grief was so powerful and made me feel so seen/understood. It has stuck with me in the 14+ years since.
Columbus apologists saying "judge him by the standards of his time." Ok, lets do that. Of all people on earth, Isabella of Castille was so horrified by his behavior that she had him dragged back to Spain in shackles and stripped of all titles and assets.
@GothicAcademic I got into crochet this fall by offering to make a few items for a charity. They gave me free yarn and I made some scarves and ear warmers. I’m sure there’s some charities around Inverness that do something similar!
Americans with profile pics of the Queen using this website to tell families of children killed by gun violence that “we need to elect more democrats” is the most infuriatingly oblivious thing I have ever seen, maybe in my entire life.
