A little reminder on interaction with children, especially when giving instructions.
CHUNK - Give bite-sized information that they can digest easily
CHILL - Wait 10 seconds for them to think about what was said
CHECK - Check that they child has understood the instruction
A child's ability to communicate with people around them is one of the most important things they learn in the first few years of their life. You can help us with our new campaign by answering a few questions https://t.co/xqpAVn5JCN
Thank you 🙏

Really interesting piece on how silent classrooms further disadvantage the disadvantaged. I'm bothered about silent corridors too.. no wonder we have high absence rates. Kids go to school to talk to their mates. Didn't you?

By playing together, parents & caregivers can help their child:
🌟 Learn about themselves and the world around them
🌟 Acquire important skills like turn-taking
🌟 Manage their emotions and strengthen their relationships

Thoughtful reflections on developing practitioners’ skills to support high quality interactions in EY ⬇️ Effective interactions require the adult to really attune to the child so you know when & how to join in & secure shared attention. Not just interacting but ‘inter-thinking’.

If you’ve not seen it before, this great little film from @SpeechAndLangUK shines a light on what it’s like to have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) from a child’s perspective. Do take a moment to watch it and please share to help raise awareness of DLD ⬇️
#DevelopmentalLanguageDisorder (DLD) is a lifelong condition that affects 2 in 30 school-age children, but most people haven't heard of it.
Help us to raise awareness by sharing Darcie’s story and read about what you can do to support children with #DLD
