Chelsea have added England international John Stones to the list of centre-backs they are considering signing this summer.

Stones is available as a free agent after his contract expired at Manchester City. The 32-year-old impressed for England as they reached the World Cup semi-finals, playing in five of their eight matches.

Chelsea want to add more ready-made players to the squad and have shown by their pursuit of 34-year-old midfielder Granit Xhaka, a bid Sunderland rejected, that they are prepared to bring in older players.

@siphillipssport I would prefer Nick Woltemade. He plays a similar position as Xavi Simons and can also play as a striker. Very tall, strong, and physical at 6.6ft. @paulwinstanley9 @Loz_Stew @todd_boehly @ChelseaFC
