I think I am officially a jaded New Yorker. I just stood near a woman on the Q train who started full-on urinating while standing up (wearing a dress) and calculated that I could easily step over the streams at the next stop. so I just stood there
@__apf__ my seven-year-old spent some long-saved allowance money on a metal detector and eagerly uses it every chance he gets with his best buddy. they have found nothing of interest so far, let alone value. they love the hunt nonetheless
@TylerAlterman fascinating to read how diverse these replies are... I haven't had serious health issues but I've gradually become much healthier over the last ~10y and I attribute most of it to diet. I eat ~80% organic and actually try to hit RDAs for nutrients, which goes a long way IMO.
Some initial thoughts, and a complicated mix of feelings.
1. Wow. I mean, Erdos problems are cool (I genuinely mean that), I didn't know about the Jacobian conjecture before it got disproved. But this newest batch from OpenAI hits home in a way the previous announcements did not.
New circuit lower bounds? A simple, easy-to-describe non-sofic group? Hardness of approximation for CVP without needing a unique games-like conjecture? I didn't just hear about these problems from my friends or from seminars. I feel their importance in my bones; I deeply care about the answers to these questions.
@NorthstarBrain@WR4NYGov@bosqui American here, I fully agree with you ... my stomach was destroyed for years, which is why I try to eat ~only certified organic food, which is widely available in grocery stores in big cities and online, and I think the quality is generally very good
@__apf__@engineering_bae (FWIW I lived for years in Moscow and never drank the tap water — most people there don’t, or at least did not at the time — and I didn’t find it to be a big deal to get giant jugs of water delivered each week. it was a standard thing to do)
@Romy_Holland@maiab not sure about this generally but I'll say that our younger kid was born at ~36 weeks after my wife's water broke and she was induced, and he did not have the necessary surfactant. he spent two weeks in the NICU with a breathing tube
@nickcammarata what bread / wheat do you eat now? I'm pretty strict about only eating organic and I think it helps a ton with the way it affects me. I now eat a lot of bread (~half a loaf a day) after having been GF years ago and I feel good
@yishan I work at a small-ish company (~100 employees) and we have unlimited PTO, and I think it basically works well, because 1) our busy periods are highly seasonal and 2) the company is lean, so there are no real slackers around to game the system
totally agree with this. what a cool way of putting it. it's also weird because i think when not clinging / tensing, you drastically increase your *capacity* to accumulate (energy, love, etc), and to like strengthen your deflated body
my model of clinging and aversion (or being triggered) is the pufferfish. it puffs you up, makes it hard for you to move around or do anything. stay deflated
