Disturbing Report on Our Growing Poverty.
Recent reports should deeply concern every responsible leader and citizen in Nigeria. A new policy study released by Agora Policy, with support from the Nigeria Economic Stability and Transformation Programme and the United Kingdomโs Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, has shown that the poverty rate in our country has climbed from about 40% before the current reforms to over 63% today under this administration. Explicitly showing that the economic reforms of this administration have pushed more Nigerians into poverty than ever experienced in our dear nation.
For a country whose population is estimated at over 220 million people, this means that well above 140 million Nigerians now live in poverty. Families nationwide can no longer afford basic necessities such as food, transportation, rent, or healthcare.
Across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, families report painful coping strategies, reducing food consumption, trekking instead of using public transport, having no electricity to use, and borrowing simply to survive. Small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy are shutting down.
An economy cannot be said to be improving when the majority of its people are becoming poorer.
What makes this situation even more troubling is the contrast between the growing hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians and the continued pattern of lavish and insensitive spending by those in power. At a time when citizens are tightening their belts, struggling to eat, and watching their businesses collapse, the politicians continue to spend huge budgets on their comfort and other non-essential extravagances. Leadership must lead by example, especially during difficult times. You cannot ask the citizens to fast while you feast. Sacrifice must begin from the top.
True economic reform must be people-centred. It must protect the most vulnerable while pursuing fiscal sustainability. Reforms that deepen poverty, widen inequality, and crush small businesses cannot be described as successful.
Nigeria is blessed with immense human and natural resources. What we require is leadership that prioritises prudence, compassion, and accountability, leadership that measures success not by elite comfort but by the well-being of the ordinary Nigerian.
Nigeria must urgently and strictly implement policies that support development, expand production, small businesses, and protect vulnerable households.
A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
Apparently, here is a systematic analysis of how the FCT election was rigged:
1) After voting at the various polling units, even if APC loses and your candidate wins, the APC cabals are not worried or threatened.
2) NYSC agents sign the results and announce your candidate the winner of that polling unit.
3) The NYSC agent then hands the results to the returning officers.
4) The returning officers take the results to the collation centres, which are dominated by APC loyalists and INEC riggers who have the final say.
This is where the losers (APC) are announced as winners. This is usually done at night because, psychologically, voters are deceived and made to believe that since their candidate won at the polling units, they can now go home and rest.
5) At the collation centres, results are rewritten in favour of APC, a new signature is added, and the result forms are handed to the INEC chairman for declaration.
6) In these collation centres, no questions are entertained regarding any mutilation of figures done at the backend (which was not done at the polling units). Any candidate announced from this centre remains the declared winner.
7) Any question or dissatisfaction must go through the courts.
8) The courts will uphold the forged results declared by INEC because the National Assembly and the Senate passed an electoral law stating that any result written on Form EC8A must be accepted without question or disqualification.
If you still donโt see anything wrong with the system, youโre the problem and an enemy of the country.
Letโs do a quick check here please.
If you are a Nigerian reading this tweet and you have never received any cash transfer from these evil lying parasites in government, please kindly retweet this.
I want us to show something. Thank you.
Millennials aren't breaking down at 50 โ they're burning out at 30. Why? Because Boomers sold a story that no longer works. Millennials were told:
"Go to college. Follow your passion. Success will follow." Instead, they inherited a rigged system.
Student debt has tripled since 2000. Housing prices are up 150% in just two decades. Entry-level jobs now demand 3+ years of experience, while wages barely moved since the 1990s. The result is brutal. Millennials became the most educated generation in history, yet also the most anxious, overworked, and underpaid. One in four has no savings. 62% live paycheck to paycheck. Nearly half say they feel burned out all the time. Gen Z watched this collapse in real time. That's why 70% prioritize mental health over money, and college enrollment is down 15% since 2010. Gen Z isn't lazy. They're adapting to a system that failed the generation before them.
While I have you all here, we need to address the rent crisis in Lagos. The standard of living and minimum wage do not justify what landlords and agents are now charging.
A self-con or one-bedroom is hitting โฆ3M/year (excluding surcharges). To afford this comfortably (using the 30% rule), you need a monthly take-home of approximately โฆ833k. Thatโs less than $600 and our countryโs minimum wage is $55.
How many "gainfully employed" people in the country today earn this? Not even most mid-level professionals. Yet landlords and agents are adamant on increasing the rent prices. Letโs put the illusions on hold and speak to the reality that is crushing gainfully employed Lagosians today.
Lagosians are drowning - literally and financially.
How is it possible that the prices of everything is going up while the quality of living and safety of these properties is going down? Shanties and make shift accommodations are popping up everywhere because we have a housing crisis on our hands, and landlords and agents are exploiting this situation.

The government needs to look into this because we need an intervention now more than ever.
The current pricing isn't just "expensive" - itโs not affordable and itโs predatory. Itโs forcing young professionals into debt or substandard living arrangements despite being gainfully employed.
Please, if youโve recently been affected by this sudden rent spike, quote/tweet about your experience and the area. Silence only fuels the exploitation.
If the government can do something about it, letโs bring their attention to it.
