ADHD is remembering a birthday a week in advance, forgetting on the actual day, feeling too much shame to text, buying a late gift, never mailing it, and letting the guilt haunt you for a decade
The ADHD tendency to need routine but then get painfully bored with routine and need excitement but then get overwhelmed and overstimulated and need routine. XO, Dr. Jen
Esenyurt’s main square united thousands of citizens to defend the people’s will. Its elected mayor, Professor Ahmet Özer, has spent a year in prison, not for a crime, but for serving his people with honesty and courage.
For a year, national will, justice, and democracy have been trampled, while those who lost the people’s trust try to rule through fear and lies.
I have been held in Silivri for 222 days, and I know the truth that no wall can hold back the light, and no power can stop a change whose time has come.
We will not tire. We will not yield.
And we will prevail.
Everything will be alright again.
I was unable to meet my European colleagues who came to visit me in Silivri. Still, I followed their visit first to Saraçhane, the heart of our municipality, and then to Silivri itself. They stood shoulder to shoulder with İstanbul, Türkiye, and democracy.
It was an honor to accept Eurocities' “Special Democracy Award” received by my wife Dilek İmamoğlu on my behalf. The award belongs to all citizens of Türkiye who believe in peace, justice, and freedom and to everyone who resists growing authoritarianism.
I thank my colleagues from Eurocities and the Balkan Cities Network (B40). They showed that democracy beats strongest in free cities, and that courage spreads faster than fear. Their stance proves this struggle is not about one man, but about all who defend human dignity.
With the will of our people, and the solidarity of our friends, we will keep moving forward for democracy and justice.
