Defenders — and some critics — of Hasan Piker just don’t get it. The issue isn’t (just) that he lumps all Jews together and holds us all accountable for the supposed evils of Israel. It’s that his nonstop drive to demonize the world’s sole Jewish state, along with those who support its survival, crosses the line — by miles — between criticism and Jew hatred of the ancient variety. 

Also, Mr. Piker, Zionism is in fact bound up with Judaism. It is not “false conflation.” Yes, some Jews are anti-Zionists. And yes, you have helped turned the Z-word into a slur such that large numbers of Jews, particularly younger ones, disown it partly out of misunderstanding. But when Jews are attacked for supporting Israel, they are being attacked for a core part of their Jewish identity. It is Jew hatred, it is unacceptable, and your rhetoric encourages it. Spare us all your taxonomy of good Jews and bad Jews.

There is a word for this.

It is called apotheosis.

It is when members of a cult believe their leader possesses divine powers that are, in fact, just naturally occurring phenomena.

Modern historic examples include:

North Korea: when Kim Jong-Il was born, biographies claimed winter instantly shifted to spring and a double rainbow appeared. It was later revealed he was born a year earlier in Siberia.

Mao’s red sun: state propaganda claimed that when the morning sun rose earlier than usual, it was because of admiring Mao’s portrait the night before.

Now, an otter appears in the Bronx River with absolutely zero attribution to any policy or procedure under Mamdani’s administration, and yet, his cult have apotheosized this man as the deity that hath brought the nameless otter forth.

A few weeks ago my grandfather gifted me my great grandfather's literature collection. It was how he taught himself English as a fresh immigrant from Poland in the 1920s.
Chaucer, Moby Dick, Dickens, etc.

Its not just the Bible. Talk to kids these days, there is a level of cultural literacy missing.

Nothing about this surprises me unfortunately.

Overwhelmingly in the big cities (like NYC, where I live) you have factors:

1. Cost of living is super high. We're talking day cares for 4k a month.
2. The cultural zeitgeist is against the nuclear family. If it involves work, or sacrifice, its not for them. And those that do leave the city.

My wife works at a hospital. Some of the women on her floor showed such animosity toward her for having a kid.

While the world watches the war, the Islamic Republic of Iran hanged a 19-year-old boy today.

His name is Erfan Esfandiari and he was his parents' only child.

He did not kill anyone. He did not carry a weapon. His crime, according to the Islamic Republic, was opening a door. Sheltering protesters who were running from security forces. That was enough to send him to the gallows.

Erfan was one of 12 young men in the Alikhani Square case in Isfahan, arrested during the January 2026 uprising. Yesterday, all 12 were moved to quarantine. Today, the Islamic Republic hanged him.

This is a government that is so terrified of a generation that refuses to be silent, that it executes teenagers for the act of compassion.

Say his name. Because the regime is already trying to erase him. Because his mother and father are left with nothing, not even the right to grieve loudly.
