I think we are not understanding the issue at hand. No one is saying that he is not a Ugandan. The concern being raised is that he allegedly holds dual citizenship, and the law bars persons with dual citizenship from holding certain public offices. Therefore, the debate is not about his nationality, but whether his citizenship status complies with the legal requirements for the office in question.
Thank you for your thoughtful input, @ezi2011.
You are absolutely right, the core issue is strict compliance with the law on dual citizenship for ministerial positions, not @ReachDrMugangaโs nationality or loyalty to Uganda. No one disputes that the Appointments Committee has done its job under the Constitution and the Citizenship & Immigration Control Act.
At the same time, the appointing authority (the President) also has the full facts before him, including the renunciation processes already undertaken by other nominees who were approved. Given that he is the one who nominated Dr Muganga after due diligence, it is only fair and respectful to allow him, as the elder statesman, to make the final call on what best serves the nation at this moment.
Appreciate you engaging constructively, brother. We are all @NRMOnline cadres working for the same goal: a stronger Uganda.
