@qasr_98 @F1GuyDan Yes. He was the slowest in Canada. Even though each driver did 1000+ laps over the whole season, having a horrendous race can make a difference in the end. Without Canada, Leclerc would've been faster than Russell and pretty close to Piastri.
@F1GuyDan Thanks for the shoutout! I just noticed I was getting some additional traffic to my blog and I wasn't sure where it was coming from haha. Mystery solved =)
@qasr_98 @AeroGimli @F1GuyDan It's rolling pace. If the slope is negative then the driver was getting faster. Leclerc was mega slow in Canada so his average pace took a big hit. His pace was generally faster than Russell's in the next races but it wasn't enough to catch him by the end of the season.
Max lost a lot of time against Russell between T7 and T8. Does anyone know if he had a moment coming out of T7? He was down by as much as 15 km/h compared to George and lost around 3 tenths of a second in that section alone.

Some say the Checo and Magnussen crash happened on a straight, meaning KMag deserved space on the outside because his front wing overlapped Checo's rear axle. That made me wonder, does Monaco even have straights?

Trends change quickly in F1. A few races ago, Alonso was consistently outpacing Stroll. However, Alonso has been beaten in qualifying for the last three races in a row. After eight races, their qualifying gap is the smallest among all the teams.

Believe it or not, Sergio's gap to Max in quali at the 2024 Monaco GP was only the 6th largest compared to other teams. Tsunoda, Gasly, Albon, and Bottas all beat their teammates by a larger margin than Max did.

Max lost over three tenths to Leclerc in the final 500 meters of the 2024 F1 Monaco GP qualifying session.
Verstappen was in contention for pole until the last two corners, where the RB20 struggled significantly in turns 18 and 19.

Leclerc looked very strong in qualifying-pace trim during the FP2 session of the 2024 Monaco GP. It seems to me that Max was running a bit more downforce than Charles (less top speed at the end of the straight, but similar initial acceleration).

@dr_obbs The consistency wasn't there due to the poor balance of the car. When Max is sliding around you know something is wrong.
The sprint weekend (little time to test setups) + low grip + high track temperatures hurt RB more than the floor damage.
Christian Horner said that Max was losing 0.25 seconds at the Miami GP just in turn 1 due to damage to Max's car. Other sources have said that Verstappen was losing 0.25s per lap. I did my own analysis to see if I could detect some patterns in the data.

@chronomanic@dr_obbs It was an outlier. The strange track characteristics + little time to get the setup right due to the sprint weekend left then in a difficult position. The balance of the car made more difference than the damage in my opinion.
Red Bull most likely got their setup wrong during the 2024 Miami GP weekend.
Verstappen got some damage to the underfloor of his car after hitting a bollard but even before then his pace wasn't as strong as we've seen in the past few races.

For the first time in a while Verstappen wasn't the fastest driver on track. Great job done by Lando and McLaren.
The average pace of the top 6 drivers was separated by around 3 tenths of a second.

@oteracing_py It's hard to say. Red Bull looked a bit weaker in quali compared to the sprint quali. My first thought was that they adjusted the setup for better race pace. Having said that, the track was very inconsistent so maybe it was just caused by the high track temperatures.
It was a fun sprint race at the 2024 Miami GP. Max Verstappen won but Leclerc looked really strong. Ferrari has shown really good tire degradation lately so we may have a race on our hands.

Here's some interesting data from the 2024 Chinese GP quali session. Albon outshines Sargeant by almost 1 full second. The narrowest margin was seen at Ferrari with Leclerc beating Sainz by just 8 thousandths of a second.
