بينما تواصل إسرائيل ارتكاب الإبادة الجماعية بحق الفلسطينيين في قطاع غزة، والتطهير العرقي في الضفة الغربية، وفيما تستمر في فرض احتلالها غير المشروع ونظام الأبارتهايد ضد الفلسطينيين، من المقرر أن يلقي رئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو، المطلوب من قبل المحكمة الجنائية الدولية بتهم ارتكاب جرائم حرب وجرائم ضد الإنسانية، كلمةً أمام الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في نيويورك بدلًا من المثول للمحاكمة في لاهاي.
إنه لأمر مشين إلى حد كبير أن تواصل حكومة الولايات المتحدة تجاهل مذكرة الاعتقال الصادرة بحق نتنياهو، في الوقت الذي تُحرم فيه الوفود الفلسطينية من الحصول على تأشيرات لحضور الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة.
بعد مرور نحو عامين على إصدار المحكمة الجنائية الدولية مذكرات اعتقال ضد نتنياهو، لا يزال الإفلات من العقاب سائدًا – ويدفع الفلسطينيون الثمن. إن الاستمرار في تقويض دور المحكمة الجنائية الدولية يوجّه رسالة قاسية إلى جميع ضحايا الجرائم الدولية مفادها أن آفاق تحقيق العدالة لا تزال بعيدة المنال، بينما تعمل الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية ودول نافذة أخرى عن عمد على تقويض الأهمية العالمية للقانون الدولي.
ينبغي لجميع الدول، بما فيها الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، إنفاذ مذكرات الاعتقال الصادرة عن المحكمة وتسليم نتنياهو إلى المحكمة الجنائية الدولية. ويجب احترام القانون الدولي ودعم آليات العدالة الدولية لإنهاء الإفلات من العقاب على الجرائم الدولية وضمان احترام حقوق الإنسان للجميع.
