“I Want to Become an Event host !! A presenter !! A Red Carper Host !!

At a recent event I hosted, I got a couple of compliments and mostly questions on how I started my journey as an host and video presenter.
Some wanted to genuinely know more about what I do but majority wanted to know how to start their own journey.

I’m sure you have heard people say “I can’t speak in a large crowd” “I’m camera shy” but deep down they want to stand on a stage or in front of the camera and be fluent and confident.

I will be starting a 30 day series on how to start your journey on becoming a fun, confident and successful host/presenter.

Become i get into the next agenda, ponder on these questions

Why do I want to become an event host ?
Why do I want to become a video presenter ?
Why do I want to host red carpets ?

Different strokes for different folks !! Your reason might not be my reason for jumping on this train .

DAY 2:- I want to make money !! I want to see celebrities !! I want people to see me in nice outfits !! I want to converse with people !!

These and more might be the reasons why you want to enter into the world of presenting !!

Before we get into the nitty gritty of presenting , let’s explain the difference between a presenter, an event host, a red carpet host and an MC.

A video presenter is someone who speaks to a camera to deliver information, tell stories, interview people or entertain an audience. A video presenter can work at Television studios, for YouTube channels, Social media platforms, Online media companies, Corporate videos.

An event host is the person who represents an event, welcomes the audience, introduces speakers or performers, and helps create an engaging experience. You can host Conferences, Product launches, Award ceremonies, Fashion shows, Corporate events, Entertainment events.

A red carpet host interviews celebrities, guests, influencers or other notable attendees before or during an event. You can grace Movie premieres, Award shows
, Fashion events, Music events, Celebrity parties, Entertainment interviews.

An MC is the person responsible for guiding the programme of an event, making announcements and ensuring that activities follow the schedule. You can work at Weddings, Birthday parties, Corporate events, Award ceremonies, Conferences, Religious celebrations.

Now that we have broken down all of these concepts, I will be highlighting each one of them and explaining the intricacies of the job flow and how you can make money from this.

DAY 3 :- “I don’t have a camera”
“I don’t have a nice background”

This should not stop you from being a video presenter.

Today we will look in deeply into who a video presenter is, what you need to be a good presenter and how to make money out of it.

Like I said in my last post, a video presenter is someone who speaks to a camera to deliver information, tell stories, interview people or entertain an audience.

Starting off as a video presenter, you need a device to record your content, before time we could only use a camera for clear and crisp videos, but now , phones are doing the job okay !! You can get yourself a phone that has a crisp camera and you are good to go.

Let me let you in on a secret, the camera is your biggest bully, that lens staring at you through your phone or camera is waiting to tear you down, asking you what you can do , it is breeding the biggest anxiety play you will ever feel, it is waiting for you to start so you can stutter or stammer 😂😂Trust me I’ve been there … so it’s either you bully it or it bullies you .. you pick !!

Editing is another intricate part of the video creation process but we will speak on that in our next post.

What do you need for your video presentation journey ??

1. Niche:- The very first thing you must sit and decipher is what genre or aspect of life am I going to be focusing on. It could be fashion, health, politics, financial freedom, education etc Whatever you decide on will give you a clear direction on what your research will be about, what your script will look like, what outfits you will be wearing, what platforms you will be posting on and so much more. THIS IS WHERE YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS

2. Script:- What are you going to speak on ?
This is the major factor in your content process. What is the point of setting up a camera and not having anything to say or do. Even if you want to dance or sing, you need a choreographed dance steps or song sequence to follow, THAT IS A SCRIPT. For speaking, you need a script that will take you hours of research and creativity to pen down. Whether you are speaking on politics, fashion, gossip etc , you must do your research on those topics, then creatively draft a lineup that will lead to a script that will bring life to your thought process. Please research, research and do more research, I know sometimes we can be lazy to do the work but that’s the only way your video can be forever goated.

3.Outfits :- As vain and mundane as this sounds, you need outfits,hair, makeup for your video presenting journey. You might not be a fan of all of these but I’m sorry, you have to have an idea on how all of these works . Putting colors together should be one of the skills you harness in this journey. You don’t need to go all out to buy new clothes but the ones you have you should be able to pair them in a way that will make you stand out in your video. Your hair should always be put together, no matter the style you want to go for, make sure it looks the best version of that style. As a lady, You don’t always need makeup on just make sure you are moisturized and are not sweating or looking stressed. It might not be perfect in the first videos you will record , with time you will get a hang of it all.

4.Microphone :- Sound is as important as the visuals. Your sound alone can deter people from watching a video. You don’t need those multi million dollar microphones to get started, you can get the ones of 15k and you are good to go. Believe me you just have to spend money on something but it will be worth it. When you get a hang on editing you can sort some sound issues with editing, but first make sure that your initial recording sound is good to go.

DAY 5:- YOUR NICHE DETERMINES YOUR SCRIPT

I’ve seen people start their creative journey with no direction in mind. Today they are speaking on financials, the next day they are speaking on fashion, the correlation and marriage between their contents appear confusing, so it’s hard to pin their brand to a specific niche.

Take for example, when you see Funke Akindele, what comes to your mind ? Movies,yeah. Whether she is dancing, talking, rapping, you know it is about a movie. That is what we call brand management.
People should should see a color and remember you , people should see an object and remember you, people should see a style of hair and remember you , people should be talking about something and remember that is something you embody.

What is niche ?? A niche is a specific area you focus on because it suits you or serves a particular group of people.

The industry you decide to venture into will determine the niche you carve out for yourself. For example, the fashion industry is very big, you can decide to narrow your contents to just reviewing fashion pieces worn by celebrities on the red carpet , you content can also be about colors and fabrics to put together to make a great fashion statement. This will help you to create a content calendar that is void of ambiguity and build a well thought brand image.
