Why referrals have to place trades to receive up to $50 deposit matches

We’ve seen some rumors that the trade requirement for both the referrer and the referral to receive $50 is so that Pumpfun doesn’t have to payout as much rewards - this couldn’t be further from the truth, and the reason WHY this requirement is in place is far better for the Pumpfun app and the pump ecosystem as a whole

Our goal isn’t to get downloads, our goal is to RETAIN new users who can benefit every single one of you who shows up every day:

1) There’s no point in us onboarding retail if they onramp, take the cash and move it straight back offchain. We want new users to actually stick around and get involved in the ecosystem, and giving someone a consistent financial incentive across multiple days is statistically one of the most effective ways to increase trader retention.

2) For referrers, better trader retention means followers who continue to tune into what you’re trading and what you’re calling out, which makes you far stickier as a followed account than a one-off signup would.

3) It of course prevents mass fraud. For over a month, deposit matching quietly rolled out on the Pumpfun app, to which end we saw mass fraud and sophisticated attacks. Without the trade requirement in place, the program would get defrauded to the extent that it would be shut down for everyone, including the people using it properly.
