The reply came in slowly.

I smiled and typed:

“You don’t always have to be strong. Rest. Tomorrow will wait.”

We talked a little… laughed over random things… then there was silence.

Not the awkward kind.
The comfortable kind.

Before putting my phone down, I sent one last text:

“Sleep peacefully. No matter how today went, I’m glad we made it to the end of it together.”

And somewhere between goodnight and sleep, I realized something:

Love isn’t always grand gestures.
Sometimes it’s knowing someone out there is ending their day thinking of you.
