When you “hit a wall” in something you are trying to learn, it’s typically just a massive debt of unlearned prerequisites that are finally being called due.
Many students are sold a lie that learning should feel pleasurable, and when that's not their experience, the cognitive dissonance eats them alive.
It's like someone signs up for strength & conditioning at a gym and the trainer tells them that they should feel pleasure doing pushups, sprints, deadlifts, etc. Or like a nutritionist saying "you should enjoy the taste of broccoli." Completely alienating.
What a good trainer will say is "Yes, it feels taxing, and that's okay, that's normal. Our goal here is not pleasure, it's satisfaction -- making progress, doing things you weren't able to do before, feeling good about what you've accomplished, transforming yourself in ways that are beneficial for your future. You're here to work, so let's do work."
People respect that, and there's a kind of comfort in knowing that we're all here to do serious work. Whether it's the gym or the classroom, that's what people need to hear.
here's some notes from a woman who's seen the mother toiling away, has herself toiled away to entertain unannounced and announced guests(announcing doesn't make the work disappear), and also enjoyed the hospitality of being the guest on some occasions-
nothing beats a house get-together.
And I hope that tradition doesn't fade away.
Having said that - YES it is 1000% unfair to the women to toil away instead of enjoying the event.
No, they didn't enjoy it and it didn't make them live longer as claimed - it made them anxious to impress and sore later.
it is almost discriminatory that the men just enjoy the pleasantries while the ladies are stuck in hot kitchens not even able to eat with others as after toiling comes serving time.
But, being a guest in someone's house and enjoying their family recipes is undoubtedly top-tier human experiences and cannot disappear.
solution -
1.make it a team effort. the entire hosting members(men included) need to contribute not just in prep, but the setting-up , serving and cleaning up - or divide tasks accordingly.
2.HIRE HELP!
Nowadays it's all about catering.
3. Equally distribute the chance to host among different families.
Toiling for special occasions is not troublesome. what's troublesome is always being the only ones to do it.
If my tiredness on one day will be reciprocated as an opportunity for me to enjoy the other's efforts on another occasion- sign me up!
4- group effort but for all the parties attending. let them not just be guest. let the prep, planning and execution be the event! and all can enjoy the fruit of their labors together.

Glad it changed. My mom would be perpetually in the kitchen cooking or making coffee/snacks for someone or the other at all possible times. This people arriving unannounced was a burden on women. Men would happily sit and chatter away.
Never trust what your brain tells you about how unenjoyable a physical or cognitive workout will be.
If you know it's good for you, just do it.
Your brain is lazy. It wants to conserve energy. It will gladly rationalize doing nothing.
When you’re not looking forward to training, you might think that negative feeling is going to intensify.
But often it just goes away and you feel great 5 minutes in.
Procrastinating builds up the dread but getting started often makes it dissipate.
I remember a similar racket a few years back tracing back to a Gujarati businessman.
sometimes putting dhanda over everything else and being in ego-war with your entire business community will lead to loss of conscience
This is a new low.
A matter of shame for the hospitals.
I am not even bothering to go into the administration and government bodies tasked with managing these matters.
That sounds like an unending broken record.
A list of these hospitals should be published and made available.
A hospital that can't figure how to get the right medicines can't be trusted
Talking about #thirdwave, @thirdwaveindia

Can our generation handle doing nothing and be... okay with it?
Can you just sit and wait without thinking about what to EAT to spend said time?
I was at a third wave outlet today which shares the premise with a music school.
School of any extracurricular kind means one indisputable truth - PARENTS WAITING.
some were waiting for half an hour, some one and I kid you not there were some that just stayed there for the entirety of the class for like 2 hours.
NOT ONE of the older generation went to the cafe to buy something to pass their time. They kept themselves occupied in various ways or just sat and looked at the surroundings.
and NOT ONE of the millenial and down generation "adults" sat down without visiting the cafe and buying a "mouth entertainment" to keep them company. ofcourse attached to their laptops and mobiles to keep busy or keep their mind constantly occupied🤭
We as a generation are driving capitalism and keeping it thriving :)
and losing our health in the process 🙃🙃🙃

Lots of people are used to spending an hour reading a chapter or watching a lecture, and then doing homework afterwards.
But that's a really inefficient way to learn. Students who approach learning that way end up wasting most of their time.
Instead, it's vastly more efficient to intersperse retrieval practice throughout:
1. Consume a bite-sized piece of information (with a sense of urgency but not rushing -- slow down when necessary to parse and make sense of complex pieces of information, and if any connections come to mind, take a moment to consider them).
2. Practice recalling the information you consumed (including solving a few simple problems that require only the material you've covered so far).
3. Repeat with the next bite-sized piece of information.
Max-efficiency learning consists of students spending the vast majority of their time solving problems (and receiving feedback) on new topics and topics most in need of review, with instruction interspersed so that students receive minimum effective doses of new information right before they use it to actively solve problems and receive feedback.
you either go crazy micromanaging everything as per knowledge, realise it's not sustainable, let go and do your best and let life happen to you .
but fix your basic health non-negotiables and stick to it and leave the rest to ✨
(not a doc just someone who got obsessed with health, nutrition and wellness and panicked exactly like you )
Why do even some of the poshest, overpriced gyms in Bangalore have subpar, undermaintained washrooms?
Even the nicer bathrooms are so overlooked after a few months they start resembling airport bathrooms 😐
That sudden burst of energy, positivity, clarity, enthusiasm and general vigor for life that hits you , without FAIL, on DAY 3 of your menstrual cycle needs to be studied.
I am now ready to take over the world.
Yesterday I didn't want anyone breathing around within 100m of my radius.🫡
