@misterduncan@MartijnFSnl@marloeshotting@misterduncan I'm a glaciologist based in Bristol and previously in Innsbruck, Austria. None of what MartijnFSnl is saying reflects the current state of knowledge about glaciers. Anthropogenic climate change is the main cause of glacier retreat globally. Thanks for your tweet.
Today we’re launching an upgraded version of the @PROVIDE4CLIMATE Climate Risk Dashboard! 🎉
We've expanded the tool beyond the country level and now you can see how different levels of climate action will impact cities and marine environments.

#COP28 response:
Despite weeks of effort and a public call to action from >1000 scientists, there remains only 1 direct ref to #Cryosphere in new GST text, with no connection to urgency, implications of intensifying changes observed today or their long-term impacts

Received shocking news from @uniinnsbruck during(!) my Antarctic expedition: Despite having secured funding, I'm barred from working at the university soon. Heartless timing, and it jeopardizes scientific career. No lab access = no sample processing or publishing.
Plz RT this 🧵
Tomorrow, 1 pm local time (8 December), @FabClimate @GeogBristol will be a panelist at the #COP28 side event "Why Overshoot Pathways Will Leave the Cryosphere Behind" showcasing research on policy-relevant climate overshoot scenarios.

Every increase in temperature matters when it comes to saving our glaciers and reducing the resulting impacts with sea-level rise, water resources, tourism, culture, and more. Our actions as a global society can thus make a huge difference: https://t.co/7RhRLyh5Gg
RGI 7.0 is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Graham Cogley (1948-2018). I met him when I was a post-doc, and thanks to him I became passionate about the RGI and the importance of collaborative work for a better world.
I'm back on this hellish platform to share something important: the Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI) version 7.0 is released!
Find out more on our new user guide https://t.co/Rz0d5mT1et
and in the thread below 🧵
We had many sponsors, but also countless hours or unpaid, voluntary work going in this release. If you can, consider contributing some of your time to make the next release of RGI even better: https://t.co/o6ywA9I3gS
#Train2EGU with a view! Mixed feelings of excitement and sadness this time:
Last time with Innsbruck as departure city! Next year will be a looutreachnger trip 😉
Last tweet on this platform for a while (ever?). I hate what it became and I will try other things for #SciComm...
@AlpineGlaciers ... if they learned something. The alternative (not evaluating at all and just trust the students to learn by themselves) would be my favorite solution but not applicable to 1 yr undergrads in my experience 😅
#Programming#Teachers in the room! I do open book exams for my programming classes (googling allowed), and I'm keen on allowing #ChatGPT as well for my *advanced* class exam, but I want to forbid its use for my beginner class (reasons below). What are your thoughts on this?
@AlpineGlaciers ... possible. Here is for example one exercise: https://t.co/hEwsd9U2Lc
ChatGPT's answer is just serving them everything on a silver plate.
For homework it may help them, but I have no way to evaluate...
