Canada and the United States met on January 10 to discuss the modernization of the Columbia River Treaty. We discussed post-2024 flood risk management, increased operational flexibility and ecosystems. We will continue discussions in the coming months.
On December 9, Canada and the U.S. conducted the 11th round of negotiations on the modernization of the Columbia River Treaty, and discussed ecosystem priorities and post-2024 flood risk management. Next round will be held on January 10, 2022.
Minister Ng spoke with Katherine Tai to reiterate Canada’s concerns with trade issues impacting Canadian industry and workers, including U.S. tax credits for electric vehicles.

Canada 🇨🇦 and the U.S. 🇺🇸 will hold the 11th round of negotiations on the modernization of the Columbia River Treaty on December 9.
The Canadian team looks forward to resuming negotiations for the first time since June 2020 and to reaching a mutually beneficial agreement.
Canada is extremely disappointed that the United States has decided to increase the unfair duties it is imposing on Canadian #SoftwoodLumber from most producers to 17.9%.
