In this way, CC0 is the most generous a creator can be, and also the most viral a piece of media can potentially be, having no legal barriers whatsoever to sharing and creating remixes and derivatives.

CC0 fixes this, by creating a license, which allows anyone to use the creative work without restriction. The creator still holds the copyright but has reserved no rights for themselves.

In many nations and legal contexts, it isn’t always obvious or easy to release something into the public domain, especially in a country where a creator automatically gains copyright over their created works.

Most free licenses, though permissive, retain some rights for the copyright holder. You may need to attribute them, or share derivatives under the same license as they did.

CC0 is special because it withholds no rights. It is intended to be a dedication to the public domain.

There is a promo running rn but I’m just bullish on the mentality of the creator - I’ll probably mint another wallet if it’s not zapped up this afternoon, been plenty of time and idk if more to come but tbh I’d thread 🧵 is based / CC0 is based - newer concept for me.

You’re basically free to do a deriv or build on top of it and it’s yours.

Not sure how that works if say I make something on top and I wanted to be like “no this is mine you can’t copy it”

Interesting corner of the space and ethos but pretty in line with my current thinking and attitude on Permissionless and open source.

Only 40 left I am going to go mint a couple from another wallet, there has been plenty of time for everyone to get in so I don’t feel like I’m doing anything wrong even if I already pulled. Snooze ya lose or there isn’t the interest and I’m down to support the creator.

@makzwl Open source isn't an ideal term but none of the terms that aimed to be more specific ever caught in so I use open source anyway because its close enough that folks understand what I mean. I sometimes use free culture also.

@makzwl To be clear, I didn't say all stuff on Stargaze is creative commons. My project is, but most are not. My explanation of why open source isn't the ideal term was just to note that your ask for clarification made sense.
