Family Advocates for Broward Schools, also known as FABS, is dedicated to driving change in the school systems of Broward County as one collective voice.
We'd love to read headlines about our school board members addressing real problems in our schools like "BCPS announces removal of the promise program" or "BCPS proactively reviewing inappropriate materials in classrooms" but our board members are too busy being politicians. 🤷♀️
@rweingarten Nope. No one forgot…and no one will forget how much you contributed to it.
Enjoy the money train while it lasts…your days in the spotlight will come to an end sooner than later.
An entire generation of children are suffering because of your actions. #ownit
@EducationFL on 8/24, @browardschools plans to review statutes and rules. This is the last page. Is this how the process works? Just tell the state we don’t intend to listen? Any comment @ChristinaPushaw?

@sarahmkleonardi If you strongly believe in choice, why vote for a mandate? Seems that your ‘science’ trumps our ‘choice.’ Perhaps #Politics, or #Political alignments, are clouding your beliefs.
Anti-mask parent Jenna Hague of Sunrise: "My daughter will show up without a mask the 1st day of school. If she gets turned away or discriminated against, I will let my daughter get a scholarship (private school voucher). That seems to be the only way to get anyone's attention."
Parent Joseph Carter: "Your job is to educate our children, not to make medical decisions. Your job is to teach our children to read, write & do math. Please leave rest of decisions to parents...I believe your hearts are in the right place. I don't know where your brains are."
Laurie Rich Levinson: "We should be spending our time discussing strategies of how to address student learning loss and we're spending our time on mask mandates. That to me is the most concerning thing at all."
Laurie Rich Levinson: "I would agree if it’s a health care choice that just affects your individual child you have the right to make that choice. The difference is we're dealing with COVID. One's rights end where they infringe upon other's rights."
It's looking like @browardschools may defy DeSantis and keep their mask mandate, possibly without a parent opt out. 4 board members (Leonardi, Hixon, Good, Levinson) said today they favor keeping mandate & @ReverendRos told me yesterday she favors it. That's a majority.
"My recommendation would be you need to test the law or disagree with parts of the law. The law can be challenged but it should not be ignored," Batista said. 2 of 2
"If you ignore the law there are ramifications to that," @Browardschools General Counsel Marylin Batista said. "As you are aware. The governor has made it clear there will be funding issues and you will be penalized if there is a violation of any of those rules. 1 of 2
.@lorialhadeff becomes the first @browardschools Board member to support a mask mandate with a parent opt out, just by filling out a form. She said when she became a School Board member, she made a pledge to follow the law. She said her kids will still wear masks to school.
As @browardschools debates the necessity of masks for children, it’s important to take off the ‘C19 tunnel vision goggles’ and weigh the cost/benefit of a mandate vs. optional. #Facts > #Fear.

@sarahmkleonardi Whether we agree or disagree with decisions by the school board, or specifically any of its members, there is an appropriate way to make comments or have a discussion. This is not it.

Fact check: Misinformation
FL now reports C19 deaths weekly, not daily.
@afusco_BTU pres of @BrowardTeachers continues to push fear and lies for political agendas instead of improving education @browardschools.
@SoFlaOpinion@sarahmkleonardi @RonDeSantisFL @RuthsListFL @LucySedg K-12 Suicides ⬆️ Homicides ⬆️ Overdoses ⬆️…Math scores ⬇️ Reading scores ⬇️ Attendance lowest in FL…yet, focus of SL is on unproven mask mandates and Gov. 🤔 Do we have SB member interested in improving schools for children or playing politics? 🤷♂️
