The Cape Flats is not a crime hotspot.
It’s a political playground.
Every election, politicians arrive with promises, cameras, and speeches.
After elections, they disappear and the gunshots remain.
Let’s be honest.
Some political parties don’t want to fix the Cape Flats.
They need it broken, angry, and desperate.
That’s how you secure votes without delivering results.
Now to policing oversight.
Oversight was meant to protect communities.
Instead, it became a political tool to criticise, interfere, and posture.
Years of noise including now.
Zero accountability.
Zero consequences.
You don’t get to weaken policing through politics, then act shocked when crime takes over.
And government?
Local and national leadership have failed the Cape Flats.
Not recently.
For decades.
Gangs didn’t become this powerful overnight.
They were allowed to grow, organise, and take control while leadership looked the other way.
Now suddenly there’s outrage?
Spare us.
The deployment is days old.
Days.
And already the same voices are calling it ineffective.
That’s not analysis.
That’s agenda-driven criticism.
You cannot ignore communities for years, then expect a full turnaround in a few days.
Yes, gangs adapt.
Yes, violence may spike under pressure.
That doesn’t mean deployment doesn’t work.
It means pressure is finally being applied.
Here’s the truth:
The people questioning action today
Are the same people who had the power to act years ago
And did nothing.
FACSA supports the deployment.
But we’re not naive.
If this isn’t followed by:
- Targeting gang leadership
- Cutting financial networks
- Corruption-free policing
- Real prosecutions
Then nothing changes.
The Cape Flats doesn’t need speeches.
It doesn’t need politics.
It needs action.
Until then, politicians will keep talking…
And communities will keep burying their dead.

Rampant shootings continue on the Cape Flats despite intensified operations involving the army and police to clamp down on gun violence. https://t.co/wSOuyscSY3
FACSA STATEMENT
Someone tag the President, Cyril Ramaphosa 🤣
The aunties in Tafelsig said you did good today… and no, this is not an April Fools joke.
We are finally seeing visible deployment from SANDF and SAPS across the Cape Flats. That presence matters.
Visibility is not just optics, it’s a psychological disruption to gang operations and a signal that the state has not completely abandoned these communities.
But let’s be clear.
You cannot beg for intervention and then resist it when it arrives.
Communities must now play their part.
No stoning. No provoking. No obstructing operations.
Allow SANDF and SAPS members to do the job we have all been demanding.
At the same time, accountability does not get suspended.
We call on residents to continue sending FACSA videos and images from the ground. We will keep publishing. We will keep applying pressure.
Because while enforcement is necessary, heavy-handedness against innocent community members will not be tolerated where it is unjustified.
This is a two-way street: cooperation and accountability.
FACSA will be watching both sides closely.
