So many thanks to so many folks who have helped me with the project and engaged with these ideas.

Sadly, due to illness, I will not be able to present my paper on Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Sensation Fiction and the Gothic at the IGA here in Halifax today. If youโre interested in the topic, this link will take you to the handout I made for the talk. https://t.co/UiILuKi1JL
@JeffreyInsko We like having Alice in a dog PFD, in part because it has both a leash attachment and a kind of handle on the back, which has made it easier to manage her when she gets, uh, agitated by passing wildlife. Look how happy she is! [Narrator: she was not happy.]
@JeffreyInsko Congrats, Murph! Did he jump right in or did he have to be lured? We've managed to get Alice into a canoe and onto a stand-up paddleboard, but only if her favorite person was already in/on the watercraft.
Among inauspicious moments in Presidential visit history: June 1833, President Andrew Jackson visited #Lowell. The Rose Bud or Youth's Gazette (Charleston, SC) reported that a group of boys saluted him with artillery & two boys -- Russell and Drummer -- each lost a hand.
Delighted to find several #recipes for writing a sensation novel. July 18, 1864 Daily Boston Advertiser provided three variations, including "a la Madame Henri de Bois" (Mrs. Henry Wood), an unnamed author (clearly Mary Elizabeth Braddon), and "Cilkie Wollins" (Wilkie Collins).
Talk to @SarahUWP at #gothicfutures about our Gothic Literary Studies series!
We are commissioning monographs and edited volumes that explore the diverse and emerging trends in the Gothic.

Spending a little time with old issues of Punch, and though I'm pretty sure Punch is making fun of these ladies, honestly, I love both the morning and evening fashions from 1866.
In light of a big new list of the best books of the 21st century, I thought some folks might enjoy this list published May 29, 1896 in the Minneapolis Penny Press of the most popular novels in various "departments of fiction." Some of these are sure to cause a fight.
Brought my whole family and we had a lovely time binding booklets and looking at some 19th-century children's books, diaries, drawings, and handwritten newspapers like the Skowhegan Clarion and The Monthly.

So they are currently filming scenes for the Walking Dead right now in downtown #Lowell, and simultaneously, an alert has just gone out to all devices that the state-wide 911 system is down. Add the 95+degree heat and it's feeling pretty apocalyptic-y.
I've had an awesome week here in Worcester @AmAntiquarian. I read a few issues of illustrated Lowell newspapers and found another story of a Lowell mill girl. I have learned so much from being a part of this week's CHAViC seminar focused on Disability https://t.co/VXGs5MJdNv
