(📢) The meme to end all memes: the Top 100 reasons not to support Donald Trump... in one image.
I’m a NYT-bestselling Trump biographer, and this is the culmination of what I learned over a decade.
What do you think—any chance we could get this to 50K RETWEETS by Election Day?
Whenever you tell yourself that there are depths to which these trash, these thugs, these lying, cynical shitheels who serve a grasping, grifting hollowed-out narcissist, will not plunge, you are immediately shown your own naïveté. They will do and say whatever the fuck gets them to what they want and where they want to go. Long-held political norms? Whatever. The dignity of any national space or symbol? Who cares? The law itself? Fuck it.
This is what is now certain: Donald Trump convinced the families of some of those buried in section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery to allow not only the graves of their loved ones -- but those of the section as a whole -- to be used as props for a political campaign. Not as a moment of sacred remembrance personal to the family but for a political ad. We know this because the photography has, in fact, been used as such. They were warned not to violate the statute that prohibits this advance. But the rules do not apply to Donald Trump
Understanding the law that prohibits such, a female cemetery employee attempted to interpose in the attempt to violate the law. She was verbally and physically attacked by the Trump crew. When this story began to break, Trump surrogates immediately attacked her "mental health." Consequently, she does not wish to file charges for fear of threats from Trump supporters.
The family of a veteran buried in section 60 has now come forward distressed that their loved one's grave has now been used as a prop in Trump's campaign materials -- the precise outcome that the statue violated here seeks to prevent. Trump surrogates continue to claim, ridiculously, that he was there merely to comfort the family and share a solemn, if entirely non-private moment, with them. Mr. Vance, notably, claimed that a camera just happened to be present at the time.
And while this controversy raises itself, where is Donald Trump? He's retweeting a photograph of Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton that makes a joke about -- wait for it -- blowjobs.
There is no gutter into which this man and those who surround him will not crawl for any possible gain or advantage. He shows us. Time after time after time.
If we’re being honest many in the MSM never had the courage to truly go after Trump. It’s easier to cover the horse race or take shots at HRC & later, Biden. Dude was a miscreant for decades in NYC. Started grooming a 12 year-old girl when she took figure skating lessons at his rink in Central Park. She called him her ‘Dirty Uncle’ ended up with him at Epstein’s on E.71 St. a few years later & said to me ‘you would not believe what those men did to girls in that place’ one of many such stories. Too seedy? How about the more public behavior on ‘Miss Teen USA’ or Vanky’s lap dances at Mar a Lago? How about snorting Adderall and stealing his medical records from his Doc? Who btw turned up dead in Jan ‘21. How about the helicopter pilots in ‘89 who wound up dead for talking to feds? How about Fat Tony Salerno making sure the mob concrete still flowed during a Teamsters Strike in ‘82 as long as John Cody got a free condo for his moll in the shiny new Trump Tower? If that pig becomes POTUS again there will be no real journalism. Reflect on that and act accordingly while u still can. Trump will turn NYT into NY Post on day one. You will be writing puff pieces on Melania Trump’s sartorial flair & Don Jr’s stubble if Donald gets re-elected. Many of you will happily do it too. It’s a business after all and Trump will leverage your greed against you. Sadly, he understands this moment better than most. Stop him. Stop the madness. Vote Blue.
Today’s Supreme Court decision on Donald Trump’s immunity claim is far worse than anything I imagined...
Effectively giving a president immunity for any crimes committed while in office as long as that president can plausibly claim the action was taken in some form of official capacity.
It must now be presumed that the president, as king, is immune from accountability.
The rule of law applies to everyone except the most powerful person on Earth.
It would be difficult to overstate how much this opinion shifts the balance of power away from Congress and towards the presidency, and how unshackled a corrupt president will now be. The Court gives the president absolute power, and it will corrupt him, absolutely.
As Justice Sotomayor says so powerfully, this new immunity ‘now lies about like a loaded weapon’ for any President that wishes to place his own interests, his own political survival, or his own financial gain, above the interests of the Nation.’
The Court holds that when a president acts within his ‘core’ authority, he is fully immune.
And when he acts outside his core authority, but in an official capacity, the presumption of immunity is so strong as to be nearly absolute.
Even if he acts in a purely personal capacity, and the Court majority gives no indication of when that would be, his statements while acting officially may not be used as evidence, and his motives may not be questioned.
Having taken up a case they never should have, having waited until the last day to issue the opinion, having known it was the defendant’s strategy to deny justice by delaying it, the Court now remands the case for further proceedings of indeterminate length, ensuring there will be no accountability for Trump’s insurrectionist crimes before the election.
During his abortive coup attempt, Trump told his acting attorney general and other top Justice Department officials to ‘just say that the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen.’
Now the Supreme Court says he is immune from ordering his Justice Department to lie, and the evidence of his malice, his very words, may not be used as evidence against him.
Under this ruling, a president can order the assassination or jailing of their political rival, and be immune. They can take a bribe in exchange for an official act, and still be immune. They can organize a military coup to hold onto power, and still be immune. If that sounds mad, that’s because it is.
This is a day that will live in legal infamy.
When justices on the Court that bears Roberts’ name, paid back their appointment by a corrupt president with an opinion that provides immunity to all corrupt presidents, and weakened our democracy and the rule of law for the ages.
Our only remedy is the ballot box, a new congress, and a new Court — that has more reverence for the Constitution than the lust for power.
