@thorneh Jon Woolcott talks about it in his brilliant, just published book, The Tattooed Hills. Take a look, it’s full of intriguing stories about the history, archaeology and folklore of such sites. https://t.co/Zquc3sxbRB
Watch the full video if you can bear to, in fact you must, we need to stare the truth in the face. And then sign Paul’s petition and do whatever else you can to help bring this despicable and illegal practice to an end.
The scourge of illegal waste crime sweeping the country has now made its way to my river, with one of the largest illegal waste dumps in the country being discovered next to the River Roding at Stapleford Tawney, near Epping.
Nobody knows what exactly is dumped on this 20,000 square metre site, or how much waste it contains, but it is certainly tens of thousands of tonnes. Shockingly, rubbish has been dumped on this site since 2024 and the Environment Agency (EA) has known about it for *at least* a year. Even now, however, the EA has not shut down the site by obtaining a legal closure order, physically blocking off the site and putting in CCTV monitoring. This means the site is wide open so anyone can continue to dump there. There is also zero monitoring of the environmental impact on the river, despite visible toxic leachate pooling on the surface of the dump & draining off it. The EA has apparently no plans to remove the waste from this site either & intends to let it pollute the environment indefinitely.
Such a joyful ramble (slower than I’d have managed before) with Clare Balding & the spirit of the marvelous Julia White, who farmed Manor Farm 1941-1955, & the incredible women she apprenticed herself to. Listen here! #BBCR4#Ramblings#GhostsoftheFarm

Govt suppressed this horrifying report last year, sneaking it out now while attention elsewhere, no doubt hoping to bury dire implications of likely ecosystem collapse. Ministers must urgently step up, change direction & restore vital life support systems https://t.co/TMdoXBuhMD
We are devastated to share the news that three white-tailed eagles have disappeared in suspicious circumstances.
We are asking anyone who may have information to help the police investigation to please come forward.

This is Boudica. I raised her this summer. In 3 years she’ll return needing a home. Swift bricks will help her & the Scots vote on them tomorrow. This is personal - it’s the future of swifts. Please send this https://t.co/4MBPkM9Wn3 & share as though you’d raised this bird
