That's the point. Everyone refers to the character as neither a boy nor a girl, so that the player can decide for themselves how they see Chris. Just like in Undertale, where everyone called Frisk "a kid, a child" without specifying gender.

-a whole separate personality. The whole point of the game is to drive home that it’s YOUR actions, not Kris’ actions. Kris doesn’t want to be controlled, but we, the player and Soul, are forcing them to do what we want them to.

@ram_stank like, yes, Jax is a dick, but the other characters don't know what he thinks OUTSIDE of how he lets them perceive him--because to him, it doesn't matter. He believes relationships don't matter because he'll "just wake up, and none of it will be real anyway."
