One time at NTC, this girl was assigned to our platoon.

We were setting up interlocking fields of fire with our 249s on the side of a mountain (Mount Tiefort) overlooking a pass. She had left all of her ammo down at the Bradley because it was “heavy.”

I remember yelling at her, ripping the American flag patch off her shoulder, and tossing it down the side of the pass. I told her she wasn’t worthy to be called a soldier and it was an embarrassment and a shame that we’d come to this point in the Army, that “they” (females) wanted to serve in combat arms but couldn’t do the job, and the rest of us (men) had to carry “their” load.

Then I told her and her buddy to go get the flag and come back with the ammo.
She started crying, and I kept yelling at her as she made her way back down the mountainside to go get her ammo and flag.
