Sierra Leone's Kelvin Doe Wins $50,000 Fellowship to Expand STEAM Education in Canada

Sierra Leonean inventor and innovator Kelvin Doe has been awarded a $50,000 fellowship by Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) to help expand STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education for young people in Regent Park, Toronto.

Doe, who rose to global fame as a teenager after building batteries and a radio transmitter from scrap materials in Sierra Leone, will use the fellowship to create hands-on learning opportunities that inspire children and young people to become innovators rather than just consumers of technology. After graduating from TMU's New Media program, he says his mission is to empower underserved communities through creativity, technology and practical skills.

Kelvin Doe first gained international recognition through his inventions in Sierra Leone and has since become a global advocate for youth innovation, using his story to encourage the next generation of problem-solvers.
