FAKTA SEBENAR:

This is not about being “happy” but about responsible crisis management. The Government negotiated to avoid a 25% US tariff that threatened over RM198 billion in exports and 100,000 jobs (and this is just for E&E!). We secured the same 19% rate as other ASEAN peers, prioritizing national interests and economic stability.

Ini bukan pasal happy Tun, tapi tanggungjawab untuk menyelamatkan periuk nasi dan mata pencarian rakyat Malaysia.

In return for the U.S. reducing the tariff from 25% to 19%, Malaysia is abolishing all taxes on 11,000 U.S. products entering Malaysia.

As far as the 11,000 products are concerned, we are abolishing 100% of our tax. For this we only get a reduction in U.S. tariff of only 6% (from 25% to 19%). That is not a good deal.

FAKTA SEBENAR:

This is WRONG.

* Only 60.4% of tariff lines are now duty-free, not 100%.

* The real trade-off is defending over RM198 billion in exports and jobs, along with potential adverse spillovers to the overall economy, financial and capital markets, and not “giving up” taxation.

Hanya 60.4% sahaja baris tarif yang dikenakan duti sifar.

100% dengan 60% tu jauh bezanya, Tun. 60% tu lebih sikit daripada separuh, langsung tak sama dengan semua (100%). Jadi tuduhan Tun jelas adalah PALSU.

Now rare earth as rare earth fetches little money. It is only 5% of the total value of the material. Malaysia should process the rare earth and extract the elements in it because the return would be as much as 30 times higher than just rare earth.

Why is Malaysia so stupid as to accept only 5% of the value when we can get many times more.

FAKTA SEBENAR:

Another FALSE statement.

* There is NO agreement, verbal or written, for Malaysia to supply rare earths (REE) to the US or any country, exclusively or otherwise.

* In fact, as of 1 January 2024, Malaysia has imposed a BAN on the export of raw rare earth materials (NR-REE). This was a Cabinet decision and is subject to strict monitoring and six-month reviews.

* The policy’s aim is to ensure all rare earth to be processed domestically, not exported raw, maximizing value for Malaysia’s economy and job creation. Malaysia is developing a full rare earth value chain, from mining (upstream), processing (midstream), to advanced manufacturing (downstream). The rare earth industry is projected to contribute up to RM9.5 billion to GDP by 2025 and generate thousands of skilled jobs.

* The policy has been communicated to all state governments and compliance is MANDATORY.
