On June 14, bronze shoes were unveiled at Macdonald Gardens Park—marking their place on #GlobalIrishFamineWay
The bronze shoes honour those who fled famine in 1847 & the Bytown citizens who showed them compassion. #IrishFamineWay
The event was a solemn and inspiring reminder of the enduring ties between Canada and Ireland, and the shared history that continues to connect our peoples across generations and oceans.

A Co Roscommon man has marked his 90th birthday by completing a 165km fundraising walk along the National Famine Way. Jim Callery set out from Strokestown Park on 25 September and arrived in Dublin today. He has raised more than €50,000 for charities working with immigrants.
