The disapproval of President Ruto in Mt. Kenya has little to do with governance.

Their anger stems from the fact that Ruto extended development to regions they’ve long been conditioned to view as undeserving particularly Luo Nyanza.

If you listen closely to Mutahi Kahiga’s remarks, he openly said he was happy Raila Odinga died because, in his view, Ruto took all development to Nyanza.

That statement perfectly explains the undercurrent of disapproval Ruto faces in Mt. Kenya.

For decades, the region has been socialized to believe that national resources belong to them even when the rest of the country languishes in neglect.

Some of us hold a different vision that Kenya can be developed equitably. That Western, Central, Northeastern, and Coastal regions can all progress together without one being seen as more entitled than the other.

But for many in Central, the belief remains primitive and tribal that only they deserve roads, industries, and investments. This mindset is a relic of the 1960s oaths and the protectionist politics that followed.

That is why it is imperative for our region to consolidate and support Ruto, it is the pragmatic thing to do.

Because this administration, for all its flaws, has at least attempted to challenge that old order to reimagine Kenya beyond ethnic boundaries of privilege.
