Ricky Pearsall — SF’s WR addition isn’t a major threat. Set up to produce if healthy.
Tyler Shough — Massive upgrade in surrounding weapons. Situation trending up fast. Olave reduced targets.
NFL Draft Fantasy Football Implications 🧵
Bhayshul Tuten — Jags didn’t land their future RB. Opportunity window stays open.
Cam Skattebo - Giants pass on RB. He’s back as RB1.
Carnell Tate — Polished route runner. Could earn targets early.
Penix is out for the season. A massive blow to the Falcons offense. Drake London is not the same caliber fantasy WR with Kirk Cousins under center. Not to mention his knee injury.
🚨 Must read tweet for any fantasy managers in competitive leagues 🚨
This is my current bench in my 12 team half PPR league. You will see how I’ve made the choice to roster high upside handcuffs (Wilson, Tuten, Spears, Robinson) as opposed to a WR5 or a QB2/TE2. The reason for this is simple. Through 10 weeks of the NFL season, 12 starting running backs have been injured resulting in their backup (handcuff) skyrocketing in value. This means on average, every week of the season more than 1 running back is getting hurt! And naturally, you would expect this average to go up as the season goes on and players endure more wear and tear.
My approach is simple. Give myself the highest chance of the landing the next handcuff gem and creating organic value for my fantasy team. What do I mean by this? Organic value is value that comes from within, from my bench. As opposed to inorganic value which comes from trades/waivers. As trade deadlines pass, and waiver wires run thinner and thinner, it’s imperative to find ways to create organic value heading into the fantasy playoffs.
As mentioned before, every week 1.2 running backs is getting hurt. Over the next 7 weeks, we can therefore expect 8 additional RBs to get hurt. By rostering 4 handcuffs, I give myself a 12.5% chance every week to own the backup of the starter who gets hurt.
Here is the list of running backs who’ve gotten hurt this season and their subsequent handcuff in parentheses:
Bucky Irving (Rachaad White)
JK Dobbins (RJ Harvey)
James Conner (Trey Benson)
Trey Benson (Bam Knight)
R. Stevenson (TreVeyon Henderson)
Najee Harris (Omarion Hampton)
Omarion Hampton (Kimani Vidal)
Isiah Pacheco (Kareem Hunt)
Tyrone Tracy (Cam Skattebo)
Cam Skattebo (Tyrone Tracy)
D’Andre Swift (Kyle Monangai)
Aaron Jones (Jordan Mason)
