@ShutdownLine Do you think the Kyrou Selke conversation this year was a bit overhyped from people relying too much on on-ice stats? From your microstats, it seems he is a good serviceable forward that doesn't screw things up in his own zone, but not quite a dominant shutdown forward...
@sammisilber You must agree that the big 3 were all “more valuable” this year right? I don’t blame you at all because its the zeitgeist, but you’re getting caught in the ambiguous language of “to his team”. Kuch, McDavid and Mack all were more valuable and brought that value to their teams
Tell me I’m crazy, but I all six of these guys have better on-ice 5v5 numbers and good penalty killing:
Yanni Gourde
Mitch Marner
Mark Stone
Jack Drury
Radek Faksa
Noah Cates
Presenting the finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy! 🏆 #NHLAwards
The trophy is presented annually to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.
Probably a clear top 6 with Wedgwood, Thompson, and Shesterkin, all very similar.
Vasilevskiy will def get the #Vezina on name recognition (yes, I think even GMs will fall for this), but here’s my ranking:
Thompson
Wedgewood
Sorokin
Vasilevskiy
Swayman
Shesterkin

@EvolvingHockey Awesome write up! I wonder if you could look at defensive metrics per DZone/NeutZone minute played. Obviously good offensive possession is good defense, but this would point to who is actually good in their own zone. I would assume Kyrou may not hold up in this metric.
