Land preparation for a good vegetable season is in full swing. The path to my farm is flooded right now, but that won't stop me from planting the best vegetables this season.
I’ve been pushing through the water and mud to get the land ready. This time, I want everything properly done so the crops can thrive. I will give you regular updates on how it’s going, from the preparation to planting and everything in between. You will see the real inner workings of a smallholder farmer here in Cape Coast.

As stated in the weather update issued earlier, the rainstorm is expected to persist, producing slight to moderate thunderstorms or rain over parts of the coastline and the inland towns, as well as few areas in the middle sector this morning. Meanwhile, mist or fog patches are likely to form over mountainous and forest zones during the early hours. As the day advances into the afternoon, sunny breaks will prevail across most places in the country. However, from late afternoon hours into the night, rain and thundery activities are anticipated over parts of the coastline, middle, transition and northern sectors.

I got into potato farming about 4 months ago. I wasn't sure how to get the stems to propagate, so I decided to grow a few beds of potatoes to get vines I could use for planting a 6-acre farm. Each bed was 50 meters long. Fast forward 4 months, and it was time to cut the stems and plant. So, I decided to harvest the potatoes and eat them. I had a terrible time digging them out of the ground, especially after cutting the stems first. It was frustrating. So, guess what I did this time? I decided to make mounds, and that should make all the difference. I'll update you on how it goes. #Agriculture #Ghana #food #farming #Africanagriculture

@johndumelo Hello Sir, does a borehole qualify? I have a borehole, water pump, and all the pipes (no driplines). The farm is 2 acres with enough land around to extend. I tried planting tomatoes in the dry season last year and failed; it's part of the reason why I decided to dig a borehole.

Not Agric related but extremely important:
Today, the UN General Assembly adopted the landmark resolution declaring the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the racialised chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity.
President John Dramani Mahama and Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, were both present.
It is highly significant that the President was accompanied by the Chief of the area that is home to the Cape Coast Castle — one of the most painful symbols of that dark history. This shows strong national and traditional leadership in the fight for truth, justice and reparatory justice for Africa and her people.

Quick advice for fellow farmers:
• Cover all wells & water points properly
• Keep the area around clean (no tall grass or rubbish)
• Snakes help control rats, but not in our drinking water!

Found this snake in my open well today. Dropped a water hose in as a makeshift ramp to help it escape. It hadn’t come out yet when I left, but I hope it does soon.
