Great overview of the SMR space. One thing that often gets overlooked is that not all SMRs are built on the same reactor technology. And those design details are important in order to tell the whole story.
A lot of the questions surrounding nuclear energy still center on safety, waste, and cost. That’s why FANCO designed EAGL-1, a lead-bismuth cooled fast-spectrum SMR.
In plain terms: It uses liquid metal instead of traditional water cooling, which allows the reactor to operate at low pressure and can continue cooling even during a loss of power.
EAGL-1 is also designed to be operable in a closed-fuel-cycle model. That means spent fuel can become a resource to be reused, instead of only being treated as waste. That distinction alone is central to how advanced reactors can change nuclear energy conversation.
As energy demand from AI, data centers, and manufacturing continues to grow, these technology differences are becoming more important to the future of reliable power. ⚛️🇺🇸
Amidst the push for clean energy worldwide, many people are vouching for small nuclear reactors, though there are still a number of factors holding them back. https://t.co/yU0HIN0UAl
We’re at the Reagan National Economic Forum alongside leaders shaping the future of energy, infrastructure, technology, and public policy.
AI. Manufacturing. Economic growth. Nearly every conversation points back to the same need: reliable, long-term energy infrastructure.
That’s exactly what we’re building at FANCO.
Grateful to be in the room engaging with leaders helping define America’s industrial future. Thank you to the @RonaldReagan Institute for hosting an outstanding event. #RNEF2026
Indiana is seeking to become the 41st NRC Agreement State. If approved, the state would have more authority over certain radioactive materials used in medicine, research, and industry under NRC oversight. That means state-level licensing and regulation for hospitals, universities, and industrial facilities while ensuring the protection of public health and safety and meeting federal regulation requirements.
For Indiana’s growing nuclear and advanced energy sector, it’s another sign the state is continuing to build the regulatory infrastructure needed to support its long-term energy and industry ambitions.

@GovNuclear@ENERGY This is the kind of momentum advanced nuclear needs. From domestic fuel supply to advanced reactor deployment, the next chapter depends on turning policy progress into real projects, real power, and long-term energy security.
More great news for the nuclear industry. The @NRCgov completed the environmental assessment for a proposed advanced reactor project ahead of schedule. Faster, more efficient licensing reviews help accelerate deployment. This is the kind of regulatory momentum the country needs to meet its energy demands. It also gives innovators greater confidence to invest in next-generation nuclear technologies. ⚛️🇺🇸

And we’re off!
Today we announced that the licensing process for the FANCO EAGL-1 advanced small modular reactor (SMR) is officially underway with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). 🏁
But this isn’t just any Regulatory Engagement Plan. As CEO Mike Reinboth put it, "FANCO designed EAGL-1 to be licensed under the NRC standards that have kept us safe for decades," said Mike Reinboth. “This country can’t afford to wait; we need a credible pathway to nuclear now and that is FANCO’s mission.”
We're excited to work closely with our esteemed colleagues at the NRC in the coming months to usher in the modern era of safe, clean, abundant, and affordable energy.

On International Day of Women and Girls in Science we’re highlighting Nicole Elizarraras, a mechanical engineer at FANCO whose helping build the next generation of nuclear tech. ⚛️ 💪
“I learned early on that being told ‘it won’t work’ isn’t the end of the story," says Nicole. "If there’s one thing I hope more women know, it’s that the curiosity you already have, the questions you ask, and the persistence you carry all belong here.”
Today, and every day, we celebrate women and girls who are building, testing, and shaping the future of science and engineering.

Nuclear energy isn't just the backup plan anymore.
A new report by @WorldNuclear says that global nuclear capacity could reach 1,446 GWe by 2050—beating the COP28 goal to triple nuclear.
Keeping existing reactors running longer plus new builds where demand is rising could make nuclear a cornerstone of global climate and energy strategies. But delivery now depends on policy, financing, & faster construction.
FANCO is stepping up here at home. The government of Indiana supports our plans to build the EAGL-1 reactor, which will deliver utility-scale baseload power at a cost that's competitive with other energy sources.
With electrification, data centers, and a larger global population, reliable low-carbon power will matter more than ever in the years to come. ⚛️⚡
