@CamillaPorter38 Yes I had this when I tried them on English phonics books. They hated it. So I switched to Spanish. Its been great for motivation and confidence. 6 year old son now reads first line of every PB page and I read the rest. Try mixing it up. Turn taking with bilingual books etc

@CamillaPorter38 I noticed this with my kids too. We live in Spain so I decided to use Spanish as their first reading language to give them confidence as its a phonetic language. I started alternating reading languages early on to give them exposure and it seems to have worked.

When I think about how I became a reader & a writer, it was all about FUN. I didn't like hard work as a child. I liked having fun. So if you want kids to be readers & writers - let them read & write things they really enjoy. Let it be fun, and #literacy will follow!
