A Tragic Reminder of the Risks of Snake Handling😢
This tragic event underscores a critical lesson often taught in numerous health and safety courses across various professions: Diminished Risk Perception.
When we become familiar with dangers, we tend to lower our guard. It’s the same in my field, where we deal with high voltage switchgear on a daily basis.
This familiarity can breed a false sense of security, leading to catastrophic outcomes. Snakes, regardless of how well one knows them, remain unpredictable and highly dangerous. A single moment of distraction or lapse in attention can prove fatal.
At #ZESAUK we are constantly reminded that:
- Risks don't diminish with familiarity; they remain constant.
- Safety protocols are not just formalities; they are lifelines.
- Vigilance must never be compromised.
Let this be a lesson for all who work with or around hazardous animals or environments. Always respect the inherent dangers and maintain the highest levels of caution. Our familiarity should not blind us to the ever-present risks.
Rest in peace to the handler, and may this serve as a poignant reminder to all to never underestimate the power of nature's most dangerous creatures.

This is horrifying!
These Pacific walruses are here out of desperation as sea ice shrinks. This mass gathering is deadly as walruses are increasingly vulnerable to predators and 80 foot cliffs. The reality of climate change! Time to act!

1. In today’s #BSR I talk about the problem of African countries signing bad deals; accepting anything that comes without scrutiny. Someone who read the #BSR sent me this clip. The eloquent lady is close to tears as she describes the obsequious tendencies of our representatives.
