@FrankHe93248994@MattFinnFNC A European friend in the US recently voted on their country's election using an absentee ballot. They received their ballot via UPS with signature required upon receipt. They returned two envelopes: one containing a photocopy of their passport/ID and the other containing ballot.
@perrymetzger Plus if AI "writes 90% of the code" businesses and people simply 10x the amount of code and projects they ship. I see this every day and it's why the AI revolution will result in more jobs, not less. In fact, there is a real risk businesses will be unable to hire enough people.
@7b0rn2@MeganBitchell But those “new” business seats that most airlines have adopted are absolutely awful. You can’t bend your knees during the entire flight. Drives me nuts.
@AdamSinger Organized crime moved from drug & human smuggling to industrial scale fraudcare operations powered by various ethnic subgroups and mafia networks. Why risk getting blown up or arrested with kilos of fentanyl/coke when you can get 💰 directly to your account from the government?
"Poor" Greeks or Italians have access to 10x the food products at a much higher quality and low prices, including many imported products that Norway taxes at confiscatory rates such as prosciutto or jamon.
I lived in Norway for a few months. Given it's the wealthiest country in Europe I was expecting every supermarket to be a Scandinavian Whole Foods. It was more like Soviet Foods. In fact, many Norwegians were driving to border towns in Sweden for their groceries. Insane stuff.
Moved to Norway and shocked at the food system.
Supermarkets are essentially big corner shops.
Processed slop, tinned/packaged stuff everywhere, while fish, chicken beef, fruit/veg are very expensive.
Around 50% of all food sold in Norway is now ultraprocessed
@antoniogm Manual is fun while driving through the european countryside but it’s a major PITA in any major city with bumper to bumper traffic. Unless you’re a masochist.
@johnennis@gotweetworms Progressives: "But if you don't pay the highest taxes in the nation who's going to fund Police and Fire Department?"
--- Emergency happens ---
Progressives: "Shit happens, expecting a well functioning government is white privilege!"
@octal Last year in Tokyo an older Japanese gentleman saw us looking at a map sign outside the train station when we were trying to locate our hotel. He walked a few blocks with us to make sure we don't get lost. In the US it would have raised 5 red flags and send BPM to stratosphere.
@adamscrabble And in this scenario the rest of the world would be left trying to sell melted ice cream of some crappy discounted flavor because freezers will be capped at 32F and nobody would be able to afford real vanilla and chocolate anyway.
@octal I’ve thought of that but I hope we’ll have autonomous Teslas or vans capable of comfortably doing the trip to IAH or DFW within the next 12-18 months which will make things a lot simpler
