Diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in near future. To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks. Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks as a goodwill gesture. We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region.

Thank you Madam President,

I have been compelled to take the floor again after listening to remarks from the representatives of Afghanistan and India.

Madam President,

The so called representative of Afghanistan, who in fact does not represent anyone but himself, must not abuse this forum to pursue his personal agenda. Sequestered in New York, Mr. Faiq, my friend, is completely cut off from ground realities, and he chose to selectively comment on some aspects of the situation, particularly with reference to Pakistan. Therefore, the value and credibility of his remarks are in serious doubt.

Pakistan's legitimate counter-terrorism operations are not directed against the brotherly people of Afghanistan, and are only meant to neutralize the persistent threat of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil, and our actions are in full conformity with the right to self-defense and international humanitarian law.

So it was not surprising that Mr. Faiq had nothing to say about the cross border terrorism from Afghanistan that is so heavily impacting Pakistan in terms of casualties among civilians, among our armed forces, law enforcement agencies and infrastructure.

Madam President,

Given India's animosity towards Pakistan and the sole objective of its Afghan policy being to destabilize Pakistan, including by actively supporting and sponsoring terrorist groups, operating from Afghan soil, such as TTP and BLA, the remarks of the Indian representative come as no surprise.

India's representative deliberated at length on the security situation in Afghanistan. He mentioned civilian casualties and border clashes, but had not a word about the terrorist threat emanating from Afghanistan, which has targeted Pakistan and which many Council members have highlighted in their statements. But there is a reason for that. It is India's complicity in all of this. We have provided irrefutable evidence of India's collusion with terrorist groups that are engaged in orchestrating violent attacks against Pakistan.

One can sense India's pain in seeing its heavy investment in the Afghan terrorist franchise going to waste as a result of Pakistan's precise and effective action against terrorist camps and support bases inside Afghanistan.

And the world needs no lectures from a serial violator of international law like India, a state that illegally occupies territory, violates UN Charter and Security Council resolutions, perpetrates state terrorism in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and beyond, systematically marginalizes its minorities, spreads hate, even weaponizes water with the express goal of starving Pakistan's population, and continues to use disinformation as a state policy. And the list goes on.

Madam President,

While India has always played the role of a spoiler in Afghanistan, Pakistan has engaged responsibly in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan. But these goals can only be promoted if the Taliban regime fulfills its commitments with respect to counter terrorism, inclusive governance and upholding the rights of Afghan women and girls, three key areas that were highlighted by the Council members in today's discussion.

India, in particular, must seize and desist from its policy of stoking terrorism inside Pakistan from Afghan soil, now together with their new found friends in the Taliban regime. While India has long played this dangerous game, we will not allow their sabotage and subversion from Afghan soil to nourish and harm Pakistan.

Pakistanis seriously need to understand how geopolitics work!

As an Afghan, I must speak honestly about a painful truth. I feel ashamed of what my country has done to Pakistan.

When the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent finally gained their homeland in 1947 and created Pakistan after decades of suffering and discrimination, Afghanistan should have welcomed and supported this new nation. Instead, from the very beginning, Kabul chose hostility and interference.

On 16 October 1951, Pakistan’s first elected Prime Minister, Shaheed Liaquat Ali Khan, was assassinated by an Afghan attacker in Rawalpindi.

Think about the tragedy of that moment: millions of oppressed people finally gained the right to determine their own future and elected their first leader, only to see him murdered by someone from a neighboring country that also called itself Muslim.

As an Afghan, a Persian-speaking native of Kabul, I say this with deep shame. Pakistan deserved brotherhood and respect from Afghanistan, not hostility. If we want a better future between our peoples, we must have the courage to face history honestly.

The tragedy did not end there. His assassination was followed by decades of interference, sabotage, bombings, and the sheltering of anti-Pakistan elements by regimes in Kabul. Almost every ruler who came to power in Kabul, whether king or president, became a constant source of tension and instability for Pakistan.

But Pakistan, in return, remained largely positive. It suffered casualties and still sheltered millions of Afghan refugees whenever war broke out in Afghanistan, one conflict after another. Afghan leaders were even allowed to conduct their jihad campaigns from outside Peshawar, raise support in Washington and the Arab Gulf states, and receive assistance to fight for their causes.
Yet even these acts of kindness did not change the attitude of Afghanistan’s Pashtun rulers. Decade after decade, they became increasingly hostile toward Pakistan, responding to goodwill with resentment, hate, and violence.

The military response Pakistan is carrying out today comes after two years of repeatedly urging the Taliban in Kabul to stop harboring and supporting TTP terrorists operating from Afghan territory.

How long will we continue this meaningless animosity toward a country we economically depend on? Isn’t it time for a new Afghan generation to speak the truth and finally end this cycle of hostility?
