Someone assaulted under the influence of ketamine might seem unbothered during or immediately afterwards because they are functionally anesthetized and in a state of drug-induced dissociation from their surroundings and body. When I was in college, a lab I worked in one summer used ketamine on rats so it could bleed them from their tails by cutting the tips off. Once you've seen ketamine used for its intended purpose as an animal tranquilizer/anesthetic you know you could literally cut someone open with a knife on that stuff, if they were given a high enough dose, and they would not cry out. Indeed, in 2025, ketamine was FDA approved for use in human surgery. Studies of recreational ketamine users show lingering impacts on memory for days after use, as well as an increase in schizotypal symptoms like flat affect and paranoia, such as fears that others are talking about you or plotting against you. It is not a simple disinhibition drug.
