Leadership in the Nigeria Police Force is not merely about rank or authority. It has always been about something deeper. It is about responsibility, legacy, and the intentional effort to help others grow.

The strength of any institution lies not only in its present leadership, but in the quality of those it prepares for tomorrow. Young officers do more than listen to their seniors. They observe them closely, paying attention to how decisions are made under pressure. They notice if the values taught in training are truly practiced in the field. They are always watching, and they are always learning and growing.

Today, Eagle Square Belongs to Every Nigerian.

The 2026 National Police Day Grand Finale was more than a parade. It was a declaration.

At Eagle Square, Abuja, officers from every unit, formation, and command of the Nigeria Police Force marched alongside the NSCDC, FRSC, Customs, Immigration, Correctional Service, and NDLEA: one unified front, one shared commitment, one Nigeria.

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, GCON, representing the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, delivered a clear message from the Presidency: police reforms, operational capacity, and personnel welfare remain unwavering national priorities.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, stood before that parade and said what this moment demanded:
This day belongs to the fallen heroes who gave everything. It belongs to the officers still standing, still serving, still showing up despite the odds. And it belongs to every Nigerian who deserves a Police Force worthy of their trust.

That Police Force is being built. Right now. Every single day.

This week alone included a nationwide walkathon, medical outreach, community service, public sensitization, and the delivery of welfare cheques to the families of fallen officers.

Today, it's not just a celebration, it’s a covenant renewed.

To the Nigeria Police Force, march on with pride.
To Nigerians, your Police Force is changing. Feel it.

There is a grief that never fully leaves. The grief of a family that lost someone in uniform, a father who didn’t come home, a spouse who chose duty over safety, and paid the ultimate price.

Today, the Nigerian Police Force faced 1,075 of those families and said with cheques in hand:
~ “We see your sacrifice. We honour your loss. And we will not let it go unrecognised.”

At the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, personally presented cheques totalling ₦2,435,421,584.11 to beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased officers, covering policy years from 2018 through 2026, including long-outstanding claims that families had waited years to receive.

The IGP emphasized strengthening welfare frameworks, eliminating administrative bottlenecks, and deploying modern technology to ensure faster, more transparent, and more accountable claim processes going forward.

I have walked this path long enough to know that appointments do not make men, character does. But I will not pretend that this moment does not mean everything to me, because it does.

To the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu,psc(+), NPM sir, you have placed something sacred in my hands, and I receive it with both. I do not take lightly what you have done. You reached into the ranks of this great Force and said “him”. I will spend every day of this appointment proving that you were right. Not for validation. But because Nigeria deserves nothing less than my absolute best, and I intend to deliver exactly that.

I have been prepared for this? Well, every posting, every challenge, every season that tested my resolve was sharpening me for such a time as this. I stand here today not in arrogance, but in the quiet, unshakeable confidence of a man who knows where he has come from and is clear about where he is going.
To my family, my colleagues, and every single person who has prayed for me, celebrated me, and sent words of encouragement, I see you . I am grateful for you. Your belief in me is a fuel I do not take for granted.

The work ahead is serious. The responsibility is immense. And I am ready.
