Mexico City, September 9, 2025 — The United States government is reportedly investigating three Morena politicians for their alleged links to Sergio Carmona, known as “The King of Huachicol,” who was assassinated in November 2021.

The information was revealed by journalist Manuel López San Martín, who stated that U.S. authorities have documented a case involving a transnational network of illegal fuel trafficking.

According to the report, the names cited in the investigation include:
• Adán Augusto López, current Morena Senate leader.
• Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, Morena’s Secretary of Organization and son of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
• José Ramón Gómez Leal (JR), Morena senator from Tamaulipas.

Key evidence reportedly emerged from the analysis of Carmona’s mobile phones, where videos, photographs, and conversations allegedly demonstrated connections between the fuel trafficker and the politicians.

Among the most compromising findings is an exchange between Carmona and Senator José Ramón Gómez Leal. Journalist Héctor de Mauleón reported that both discussed trips, internal party meetings, and payments originating from Mexico City. In one message, Carmona informed Gómez Leal he would switch phones to maintain secure communications.

The name of Horacio García Rojas, identified as Carmona’s operator and current deputy secretary in the government of Américo Villarreal in Tamaulipas, also surfaced. Gómez Leal allegedly asked whether García would accompany Carmona to a Morena meeting referred to as “moros.”

Another message reportedly shows Gómez Leal urging Carmona to expedite a pending payment, while expressing concern about pressure from an unidentified “senior figure,” warning that failure to act could pose risks. He also raised alarms about the misuse of names by individuals “with rank,” suggesting a broader internal operation.

So far, no Mexican authority has confirmed the existence of these investigations, and the politicians mentioned have not issued official statements. Nonetheless, the leaked information has reignited criticism over Morena’s alleged ties to criminal networks Arturo Garza González, current internal delegate of the FGR of Tamaulipas, is also involved in this.

Diplomatic tensions could escalate if U.S. authorities decide to pursue formal charges or request international cooperation.
