I owe you an apology and a correction.

On Tuesday, I published serious allegations about Cardoso Varela. That post was based on sources and material provided to me, but I should have taken greater care and carried out further verification before publishing claims of this nature.

I no longer stand by the claims made in that post, and I apologize for publishing them.

I am sorry to Cardoso Varela and his family. I am sorry to FC Porto. And I am sorry to everyone who has followed my work and trusted what I put out. That trust is the reason this account exists, and I know it has been damaged.

I also want to address something directly. There have been claims that PortoReport was paid or directed by Andy Bara. That is false. I have never received money, favours, or instructions from Andy Bara in connection with my reporting. Every decision made by PortoReport has been my own.

I know an apology does not undo the impact of what happened. Everyone who has supported PortoReport deserved better than this.
