There was a meeting organised in Coimbatore with businesses and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

▪️The owner of Sree Annapoorna, a famous vegetarian restaurant chain in Coimbatore, Mr. Srinivasan explained the problems of different GST rates for different items to FM

▪️He said GST on sweets 5%, namkeen 12%, plain bun 0, but bun with cream bread 18% - this makes calculation of GST and input credit tedious not just for businesses but even tax officials (video 1 from the event)

▪️While FM laughed it off on stage but the same owner was later made to apologise to her in person. His apology was surreptitiously recorded and shared by BJP’s official handle (video 2)

This is the height of arrogance where a businessman can’t even voice his concern

It’s a direct attack on the pride of Tamil Nadu, which won’t be tolerated. Little wonder the BJP has struggled to make a mark in the land of Periyar

Madam FM, being in public life means listening to grievances and providing solutions not intimidating those who complain

When the owner of a small business, like Annapoorna restaurant in Coimbatore, asks our public servants for a simplified GST regime, his request is met with arrogance and outright disrespect.

Yet, when a billionaire friend seeks to bend the rules, change the laws, or acquire national assets, Modi Ji rolls out the red carpet.

Our small business owners have already endured the blows of demonetisation, an inaccessible banking system, tax extortion and a disastrous GST. The last thing they deserve is further humiliation.

But when the fragile egos of those in power are hurt, it seems humiliation is exactly what they’ll deliver.

MSMEs have been asking for relief for years. If this arrogant government would listen to the people they would understand that a simplified GST with a single tax rate would solve the problems of lakhs of businesses.

Today marks 2193 days since Sanjiv Bhatt has been languishing in Jail for a crime he did not commit.

September 5, 2018—a day forever seared in our memory as the day Sanjiv Bhatt was unjustly torn from us. Today marks 6 years of his wrongful incarceration by a regime so terrified of his truth that it continues to resort to extreme, oppressive measures to crush his spirit and silence him, all because he dared to stand up against this dictatorial regime.

Every day we continue to fight for justice and every day, this regime stoops to unimaginable lows in its effort to silence Sanjiv once and for all. A new dangerous chapter of this injustice unfolded on Sunday when in a shocking and appalling move, Sanjiv was secretly moved to another prison, a facility infamous for housing hardened criminals and terror convicts, many of whom Sanjiv himself was instrumental in putting behind bars.
