26 years sober, and I'm still taking it one day at a time.
When I started this journey, I had 18 things I thought I needed to fix about myself.
I focused on two: recommitting my life to Christ and getting sober.
I don't even remember what the other 16 were. Turns out, I didn't need to know.
I just went to work on becoming the best version of myself.
Here's the thing: I didn't try and do it overnight.
That old slogan, one day at a time? I just tried to have a good day today.
My jackass man mentality had me thinking "I got myself into this hole, I'll get myself out."
Brilliant plan, right? Trust the same dude who drove the car into the ditch to get it out.
But then I started asking for help.
Asking for help became my superpower.
When I stopped trying to fix everything at once and just tried to have a good day today, life started making sense again.
I learned I didn't need all the answers. I just needed to show up and do the next right thing.
Recovery isn't perfect, and neither am I.
I'm just a man who found a way to make himself happy so he could have a chance at making others happy too.
