4th generation farmer, Christian mom of 4, CCA, Precision Agronomist for Ag Authority, Director of Cons & Nutrient Stewardship for IL Corn, tweets are my own!
@CBKimbrell this is the loss ratio for Texas Corn. For the last 15 years. Farmer payed premium plus subsidies vs Losses.
When companies enter the state they have to take the whole state. This doesn’t include the disaster payments. And yes this affects ethanol!

Activist: "Your cows are putting carbon into the atmosphere."
Farmer: "Where did they get it?"
Activist: "What?"
Farmer: "The carbon. Where did the cow get it before it put it anywhere."
Activist: "From... eating?"
Farmer: "From eating grass. And where did the grass get it."
Activist: "The soil?"
Farmer: "The air. The grass pulled it out of the air last spring. The cow ate the grass. The cow breathed some of it back out. It went back into the air it came from."
Activist: "But it's still going into the atmosphere."
Farmer: "It's going back. There's a difference between a thing going somewhere and a thing going back. You've described a circle and you're frightened of it."
Activist: "Then just don't have the cow."
Farmer: "The grass still dies in autumn. It rots where it falls. The carbon goes back into the air either way, just without anyone getting fed in the middle."
Activist: "It's not that simple."
Farmer: "It's grass, cow, breath, grass. Or it's grass, rot, air, grass. Same circle, fewer dinners. If that's complicated for you I'd stay away from the water cycle. That one's got clouds in it."
Many do not realize how many farmsteads have been lost over the last 70 years in the Midwest.
To determine the change, I mapped out the locations of farmsteads that existed in the 1950's for my SC IA township using the Iowa Geographic Map Server. https://t.co/JB1b7Oro6Z (1/5)
@CBKimbrell Have heard of multiple of these stories actually closing. Most are overseas scammers that have figured out how to work the system and make it happen.
The farmer response rate for #USDA’s Prospective Plantings #survey was the lowest it’s ever been for the March survey. @SethMeyerMU, from the University of Missouri, says the farmer-USDA relationship needs a rebuild.

@CBKimbrell Part of the issue is there are no required nutrition classes required in med school. Docs get their info from Google like most general consumers...
Today’s @farmdocDaily breaks down how farm policy design is driving outcomes in ways that reward structure over strategy. Real support means markets and risk tools that work, not papering over broken incentives. https://t.co/6FvCCLsxpS
@mccombieforilli Not highly effective. I had my wallet stolen while visiting Chicago, on my own tracked down video footage of the person using my credit cards and the detective wouldn't even pick up the footage, citing the SAFE-T act would prevent them from doing anything anyways
It’s not a race to be the first one to apply fall NH3.
Soil temps are finally trending down & we actually got some rain but lets not kid ourselves. Oct 20>April 20 is 6 Mo!
Remember that whole 4R stewardship thing everyone likes to brag about? This would be the “Right time” part
Did some math on inflation.
In October 1970 a John Deere 4020 that cost $10,000 would haul a bushel of soybeans worth $3, and feed a cow worth $372.
(Inflation adjusted to 2025)
In October 1970 a John Deere 4020 that cost $83,000 would haul a bushel of soybeans worth $25, and feed a cow worth $3,100.
(Reality in 2025)
In October 2025 a John Deere 6r 145 that cost $220,000 hauls a bushel of soybeans worth $10, and feeds a cow worth $2,900.
In conclusion -
•machinery is ridiculously overpriced
• soybeans are underpriced
• beef isn’t too expensive
It’s scary how easily we’re influenced.
One conversation with the right person can put something on your radar you never would’ve considered.
One group of friends can quietly shape your habits, spending, and even your future on the farm.
Here’s a real-life example… 🧵
2. For 2026-2029, the following changes to 45Z will be implemented:
* Only biofuel produced from feedstocks produced or grown in the United States, Canada, or Mexico will be eligible.
* No ILUC in GREET model CI scoring
* Negative CI scores are prohibited, except in the case of transportation fuel derived from animal manure
* Tightens restrictions on double-counting of 45Z credits
* Most (all?) ethanol producers will earn positive 45Z credits because ILUC is no longer included in CI scoring
