In 2008, Elon Musk had $30 or $40 million left and two companies going bankrupt.
"Put it all into one company, and then the other company would definitely die."
He split it.
He was 37. By his own account, PayPal had left him $180 million: $100 million went into SpaceX, $70 million into Tesla, $10 million into SolarCity. He was borrowing money from friends to pay rent.
SpaceX had launched three rockets. March 2006, March 2007, August 2008. All three failed, and there was money for one more.
Tesla was losing money on every car, in the worst credit freeze in decades.
In the clip below, from SXSW in March 2018, he explains the choice himself.
"If I split it between two companies, then both might die."
Worked out.
Say he had the full $40 million. A company that gets all of it survives 60% of the time, and a company that gets half survives 35%.
All in on one: 60% you keep one company. 0% you keep both.
Split: 1 − 0.65 × 0.65 = 58% you keep at least one. 0.35 × 0.35 = 12% you keep both.
Splitting cost him 2 points of survival and bought a 12% shot at keeping both.
September 28, 2008: the fourth Falcon 1 reached orbit.
December 23: NASA awarded SpaceX $1.6 billion for 12 cargo flights.
December 24, 6 pm: Tesla's financing round closed. In his words, the last hour of the last day possible. They would have gone bankrupt two days after Christmas.
88 times out of 100, that bet loses at least one company. He got to run it once.
The full SXSW Q&A is free on YouTube.
Your last $40 million, two companies you built. Do you split it or pick one?
Tesla & xAI CEO Elon Musk also agrees there’s a 10–20% chance of AI or killer robots wiping out humanity
but his view on it is kinda interesting:
“my philosophical conclusion is to look on the bright side”
he says there’s no real way to stop the incredible momentum of AI and robotics anymore.
and even if there was a stop button, he probably wouldn’t press it because he believes the most likely outcome is “incredible abundance for all”
“let’s hope for the best and go for the ride.”
it’s actually surprising to see some of the most notable people building AI admit it could wipe out humanity, yet none of them seem willing to slow down the race
We call it Exceptionalism. It’s the same political philosophy used in U.S. by post WWII foreign policy establishment. Because USA is Exceptional, it’s superior to all other nations and therefore is entitled to run the world.
Zionist Israel is now partners in the U.S. Empire along with UK and NATO with the goal of defeating peers and near peers, which means Russia and China. Exceptionalism is irrational and irredeemable, disastrous and irreconcilable with a stable world living in peace. Exceptionalism means constant war.
China is subsidizing its product in order that it can continue to be sold in the USA. Many firms are leaving China for other countries, including the United States, in order to avoid paying the Tariffs. No visible increase in costs or inflation, but U.S. is taking in Billions!
"The potential, possible strikes will be, in quotation marks, accidental,’ Tusk said, describing a possible Russian strategy aimed at paralysing or weakening NATO countries' willingness to invoke the alliance's collective defence provisions in response to an attack on a member.
‘There is a real risk that drones or other types of missiles could enter the territory of one or several NATO countries on the eastern flank and even cause damage,’ he said.”
Tyskland sender pludselig uanmeldt ekstra tropper til de baltiske stater. Macron indkalder det franske sikkerhedsråd og opposition nu her. Meloni siger at Rusland vil teste NATO.

3) FLASHBACK 👉1998 CLIP: WAR HAWK BIDEN TRASHES SCOTT RITTER FOR OPPOSING AN IRAQ WAR
Biden Mocks Scott Ritter Who Exposed Government Mistake
Biden's bullshit.
Scott is a Hero!
First, you will recall that it took UNSCOM four long and frustrating years to pry -- to pry -- an admission out of Iraq that it had biological weapons.
Second, when Iraq finally admitted having these weapons in 1995, the quantities were vast. Less than a teaspoon of dry anthrax, a little bit about this amount -- this is just about the amount of a teaspoon -- less than a teaspoon full of dry anthrax in an envelope shutdown the United States Senate in the fall of 2001. This forced several hundred people to undergo emergency medical treatment and killed two postal workers just from an amount just about this quantity that was inside of an envelope.
Iraq declared 8,500 liters of anthrax, but UNSCOM estimates that Saddam Hussein could have produced 25,000 liters. If concentrated into this dry form, this amount would be enough to fill tens upon tens upon tens of thousands of teaspoons. And Saddam Hussein has not verifiably accounted for even one teaspoon-full of this deadly material.
And that is my third point. And it is key. The Iraqis have never accounted for all of the biological weapons they admitted they had and we know they had. They have never accounted for all the organic material used to make them. And they have not accounted for many of the weapons filled with these agents such as there are 400 bombs. This is evidence, not conjecture. This is true. This is all well-documented.

1:55
No, sir, I do not.

My time is up. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
1:59
Senator Biden. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
2:01
I, uh, I envy your position.
2:04
Okay. I, I, I sincerely do.
2:05
I envy the ability to have such clarity on this issue.
2:08
Let me ask you a question.
2:10
Do you think you should be the one
2:11
to be able to decide when to pull the trigger?
2:13
No, sir.
2:14
Isn't that what this is about?
2:15
If you, if you adopt the position
2:18
that any time you are denied, you, your particular...
2:23
And there's four groups out there in the inspectors.
2:26
Your, the group you headed, any time you are denied,
2:30
that that ipso facto
2:32
requires the United States and the Security Council to
2:35
act on what they said they would do,
2:37
which is to use whatever means necessary to
2:41
take on Saddam Hussein so you can get into that particular facility.
2:45
Is that not correct?
2:46
Is that not your position?
2:48
Mr. Senator, I have a job to do,
2:49
or I had a job to do,
2:51
and that was to disarm Iraq in accordance with the provisions-
2:53
No, I got that ... of relevant count, resolutions.
2:55
With all due respect, if you...
2:56
I'm not trying to be confrontational.
2:57
I'm trying to get- Thank you ...
2:58
this as clear as I can.
2:59
I really mean this now.
3:01
You have an absolute logic.
3:04
You put together a very tight syllogism here.
3:07
You've indicated that your job is to disarm.
3:11
The only way you can disarm is to have access.
3:14
The only way you can have access is either with permission
3:19
on the part of Iraq or, if denied, forced access.
3:23
Yes. Right?
3:24
Compelled access. Compelled. Well, okay. Compelled.
3:27
You sound like the lawyer, and I sound like the military guy.
3:29
I mean, you know.
3:31
Compelled, where I come from, when my old man said,
3:33
"You're compelled," it meant I was forced.
3:35
I mean, it was a real simple proposition.
3:37
It wasn't, you know, it wasn't much to debate.
3:39
Now, there is a clear logic to that,
3:41
and that's what I mean when I say I respect your position.
3:44
But that means that whenever you choose
3:49
a target that warrants inspection and you are denied,
3:54
that ipso facto, at that moment,
3:58
the only way your position can be satisfied or sustained
4:02
is if the UN Security Council or the United States
4:06
acting unilaterally uses force to guarantee access.
4:11
Is not that true? Yes, sir.
4:13
Now, that means that you get to choose the time and place
4:18
when we would use force if we use force.
4:21
No, sir. Of course you do.
4:22
If you choose the site and it's denied.
4:24
And we coordinate with the member states to include the United States
4:27
Exactly ... and that prior to us going in,
4:30
we have their agreement that this indeed is an inspection worth doing.
4:33
Okay. Inspection worth doing, everybody's agreed it's worth doing,
4:36
and it gets stopped.
4:37
Yes, sir.
4:38
At that moment, we're in automatic pilot as far as you're concerned.
4:43
Period. No if, ands, or buts.
4:46
Now, I respect that.
4:48
But now it seems to me the secretary of state
4:50
might have a slightly different problem.
4:53
Secretary of state might be sitting there and saying,
4:55
"Now, look over there on that side. Now,
4:57
I remember so and so and so and so and so and so,
5:00
and the 12 people on this side,
5:02
they're all the ones that said they didn't wanna use force."
5:06
Now, I'm gonna have to go tell the president now
5:09
that we should, or Secretary Cohen, unleash
5:12
whatever it takes to get it done.
5:15
And our military assessment is the same as the Major's.
5:19
The Major's assessment is, privately held but publicly acknowledged later,
5:24
that airstrikes alone aren't gonna do this.
5:27
Saddam's not gonna cave on this.
5:29
So now here's the deal.
5:31
I recommended the president have at it
5:35
and let the chips fall where they may.
5:37
A reasonable position for the secretary of defense
5:39
or the secretary of state to take.
5:41
But I respectfully suggest, Scott, or Major,
5:44
I respectfully suggest
5:46
they have a responsibility slightly above your pay grade,
5:50
slightly above your pay grade,
5:52
to decide whether or not to take the nation to war
5:55
alone
5:57
or to take the nation to war part way
5:59
or to take the nation to war half a, halfway.
6:04
That's a real tough decision.
6:05
That's why they get paid the big bucks.
6:07
That's why they get the limos and you don't.
6:10
I mean this sincerely.
6:11
I'm not trying to be flip
6:13
because I think, and that's why I said at the outset,
6:16
the reason why I'm glad you did what you did,
6:20
we should come to our milk.
6:23
We should make a decision.
6:26
But in terms of whether the Secretary of State
6:29
has no more to consider than you do as the arms inspector,
6:34
you didn't get in, didn't get my job done, get me in.
6:38
Period. You made the deal, right?
6:40
That's the deal. A deal's a deal.
6:41
Get me in.
6:42
Scott Ritter, I'm ready to go.
6:45
It's not how it works.
6:46
Now, maybe it should work that way.
6:48
Actually undo- But I...
6:49
Wouldn't you acknowledge that if you were President of the United States
6:52
or the Secretary of State, you'd sit there and say, "Now,
6:54
okay, old Scotty boy didn't get in.
6:57
We said he should get in.
6:58
We want him to get in.
6:59
It's important that he does get in.
7:00
They're not gonna let him in,
7:01
so what are we gonna do now?
7:03
We know that France and Russia aren't gonna be with us.
7:05
We're quite confident China's not.
7:07
We've already run those traps.
7:08
They're not there.
7:09
We're not sure where the United States Senate is,
7:11
but have at it, boys.
7:14
Go get 'em.
7:15
And by the way,
7:16
Scott and the boys say air power's not enough."
7:21
I think it's a legitimate debate, Scott, or, Major.
7:24
I think it's a legitimate debate,
7:26
but I don't think we should be putting it in the context
7:29
of you have somebody up there at State saying,
7:31
"Look, how can we weasel out of this agreement?
7:33
We wanna let this guy out there hanging.
7:35
We're not s- we're not this."
7:36
It's a very practical political decision.
7:40
Same kind of decision General Powell made.
7:43
Same kind of decision President Bush made.
7:47
Every president, every secretary of state has to do it.
7:50
Like I said, they get paid more than you.
7:52
Their job's a hell of a lot more complicated than yours.
7:55
They may have made the wrong decision,
7:57
and you brought it to light.
7:58
We should address it.
7:59
We should say straight up where we are,
8:01
and we should do it.
8:02
And for that, I thank you.
8:05
But it's above your pay grade.
8:07
I yield the floor.
8:13
Senator Warner.
8:16
Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Um,
8:17
Major, um,
8:19
you've leveled one of the most serious indictments
8:23
against the top level national security team of
8:26
this country that has ever been done in ...
When I was at AWS Nordics, a memo came out from Seattle with a list of banned words. One of which was "brown bag" in reference to lunch meetings.
LeftFoid hysteria had conjured that "brown bag" meant people with skin tone darker than a lunch sack we're not allowed in the meeting.
At first I tried to argue that this was stupid and it's literally just bringing your lunch to a meeting.
Besides, we don't need to ban terms and phrases all the way over in Europe because cultural attitudes in America.
I was informed that I was making people feel unsafe (those people were in Seattle and I was in Stockholm). This became a feminist thought terminating cliche when they wanted the discussion to stop because their lack of sentience was about to be revealed if you pushed the absurdity even a little more.
Just one of the many factors that led me to realize I would probably not survive the coming ideological purges, so I got out on my own terms.
Now I consult companies on recognizing and curbing madness early.
White women have unfairly been lumped in with all women when we talk about the “if only women voted” voting map in the USA. That map is significantly skewed by black and Hispanic women.
We need to remember this and look at the data because far less white women are leftists than we may think. A majority of white women voted Republican since 2000 and the last time they voted Democrat was Bill Clinton in 1996 (49% plurality because of Ross Perot) who by today’s standards was center right anyways.
I hadn’t really had this at the forefront of my thinking around the political gender gap and think I had accidentally been putting too much blame onto white women for my leftist women resentment. I also don’t really think in strictly American terms and forget how much more conservative we are as I pay attention to a lot of European politics where white women are much more leftist than here.
I had been conflating both women as a whole without separating by race and women across the west without separating by country. Also I live in California and my god I am surrounded by insane fucking leftist women and the consequences of their voting have been so utterly disastrous but I forget that this state is not reflective of America as a whole. When you live in a leftist state and you have to try to date from this pool of women it’s easy to become frustrated with these white women.
Just been ruminating on this and think a lot of the fellas need to be reminded to differentiate our own women from women as a total category. 90% of black women vote Democrat and 60% of Hispanic women do, so this really skews the numbers. Let’s not go as hard on our own women and keep these figures in mind. Here’s a map that shows how things would be if it was only white men and women. Wouldn’t even be talking repeal the 19th as much if it was just us.
In fact the last time an actual majority of whites women voted for a democrat was LBJ in 1964!

AOC: I think we all know that everyone is opposed—well, people of rational sense in this country are opposed—to this senseless Iran war. We are seeing billions of dollars go to flattening other countries, and people can’t even fill a prescription here at home.
This administration—Donald Trump and JD Vance, all of them—are responsible for some of the most destruction and the worst prioritization of the American people’s needs. And it’s time that we turn that ship around.
Thanks to President Trump and his historic leadership. Law enforcement has been given the tools to go after vicious gangs like Tren de Aragua for exactly what they are!

As everything slowly begins to sink-in, and after finally getting some sleep last night, I wanted to share a small personal note…✍️
The first call I made after Vikram-1 successfully reached orbit was to my Dad.
He is the man who made my journey possible—with dreams for me far bigger than the ones I had for myself, and by simply never giving up on me.
Until my 8th standard, I was a bad student. I scored 51 marks in Maths and even failed another subject. Back then, I could never have imagined that I would one day make it to an IIT—or have the privilege of contributing to India’s first privately developed rocket reaching orbit, making India only the third country in the world to achieve this.
When I called him after the launch, he just cried.
And cried.
He couldn’t speak a single word.
But I understood every word he couldn’t say.
I managed to hold back my tears when Vikram-1 reached orbit. But somehow, writing this, I can’t.
Thank you, Dad. ❤️
And a big shout-out to every dad who dreams big for their children—and never gives up on them. 🙏
P.S. A picture with Dad from one of my birthdays after starting @SkyrootA.
