Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he is “open to exploring” an export ban for diesel fuel as average national prices surge past $6 a gallon due to the catastrophic war in the Middle East. BBG $USO

The average national retail price for diesel fuel hit $6.27 a gallon on Tuesday, a new record according to the American Automobile Association.

Oil industry executives have warned that an export ban would initially lower prices for US consumers, but would ultimately backfire by causing energy companies to cut crude production and fuel refining.
