“They will follow us, we reek like their slain kin.”
The very idea has his nose curling lightly, almost preferring the sulfur smell of the mines of Moria over the rotted blood of demons.

sheathing her sword , even the elf has a noticeable ache in some limbs as she steps away from the carnage on the forest floor —— so , she doesn’t entirely believe his reply , but she lets it go .

“ we should leave , there could be more of those damned creatures . ”

⠀
“ fine . i just didn’t know they could move that fast . ”

said jokingly , but it is true . the knight wipes her sword against her glove , blood dripping from the blade —— the aftermath of the fight is no pretty sight , but when is it ever ?
⠀
“ what about you ? ”

Thorin was silent despite his heavy breathing, a few beard hairs out of place as his brown eyes dart back and forth. Once he was sure they were safe, he focused on his companion.
“You’re alright?”

standing in silence , half stunned , half catching their breath after an ambush . the elf and hobbit still hold their weapons , both victorious and splattered with goblin blood —— kiriell wipes her face , looking down and at the dead foes .

Thorin’s smile was nothing short of sweet as he approaches the hobbit’s door, barely sparing a glance as he shoulders past the person and into the house, nudging the door shut.
“Bilbo. Hello, little thief.”
the person he had been speaking to was about to have a door slammed in his face, but the dwarf who called out his name ... would have a home to be welcomed into.
“thorin!”
He walks silently, head down as he favours his left leg. He hadn’t realized just how hard he’d been stepped on, but something hurt.
“Thank you, Isildur..”
"King Thorin," he greets with a nod of his head. "They call me Isildur. . come to the people with me, there should be aid there."
His horse stands beside him, hands on his reign as he starts towards the village below. Only merely down the hill.
Eyes roll with a knowing look upon features. Such words he's uttered with the same pain this stranger now wears.
"You are a part of those people. My friends stray not far. They can lend a hand to all, including you. What is your name?"
“It’s nothing, I’m fine.”
Thorin lies easily, his brown eyes taking in the surrounding battlefield.
“There’s people that need help, we should focus on that.”
"Seems utterly tiring." He sighs. Is this what his new life is to be? One fight after another.
Gaze falls to the dwarf and the mumbling of curses. "Are you hurt?"
“It hurts, but they would not want you to dwell on it, would they? I’m sure they’d want you to live, so they can live through you..”
He trails off, shoulders sagging as his brown eyes slowly trail back to the horizon.
He nodded quietly, allowing Elendil to speak as his lips curled into a small frown, tears his gaze from the horizon to look at him quietly.
The dwarven king’s hand remains a heavy reminder against the man’s arm, before he finally opens his mouth to speak. +
softened despite the heavy tone between them.
“You live each moment like it’s your last, and you look forward to seeing them in the beyond when it’s your time.”
“He lives.”
Thorin responded simply, following the man’s distant gaze as he stands next to him quietly.
“When my people lost everything to the dragon…our home, our loved ones…all we had left was to live for those who no longer did..”
His gaze turns to the human, his eyes +
the past still holds me so tightly.
What is a man to do when all he has built is gone ? When the only thing left to him is regret ? ´´
His gaze drifted toward the horizon, as if searching for something long lost.
