Sentenced to prison, stuck in jail. Hundreds wait as Indiana's transfer backlog drags on...
@farrahsoa on the backlog straining county jails — stretching budgets, filling beds & forcing facilities built for short-term stays to hold people for months.

Congrats to @WTHRcom and @wfyi for being named finalists in this year’s IRE awards — and for dedicating the time and resources to produce important work!
Hello again! It was just over two years ago that we informed @wfyi that we were forming a union w/ @sagaftra. Negotiations have since been very, very slow. That’s right - we’re still bargaining our 1st contract. What’s going on? Over the next few days we'll get you caught up.
I'm sure loads of journalists have said this already but...
good journalism is largely composed of reporting on things that people DO NOT YET KNOW
Watergate, famously, was uncovered by a series of stories that many people did not read until they reached a crescendo
Hundreds of students at Carmel High School walked out Tuesday afternoon as classes ended to take part in a nationwide protest against the Trump administration.
@farrahsoa spoke with some of them about why they walked a mile+ in freezing temperatures

FBI raid of reporter’s home is a “Tremendous escalation in the administration’s intrusions into the independence of the press” says major legal group defending free press: https://t.co/5GkWM5T4zW
Why is there a $4 million child care center sitting mostly empty in rural Indiana?
Hint: It follows Indiana slashing vouchers for low-income parents, after federal pandemic-era funding ran out.

Decatur Township has become the latest flashpoint in Indiana’s growing wave of data center battles — this time pitting residents against Sabey, a Seattle-based developer.
@farrahsoa on why residents worry Sabey could bypass the city county council.

This week Indiana Republicans will consider a new congressional map that would split Indianapolis into 4 sprawling districts.
Many Black voters in the city say it’s impossible to see this as anything other than an effort to dilute the votes of the largest Black community in the state. https://t.co/4yXfasffnM
@farrahsoa@wfyi@ericweddle@farah_yousry Heartbreaking work by an ace reporter and team.
Providers told Farrah that they are not always sure whether patients across Indiana with both medical and psych needs are better off inside NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals - often the only place that will take them - or on the streets.
WFYI interviewed more than 40 former patients, relatives, staff and experts who described a hospital system that strands vulnerable people with little recourse.
Their accounts — corroborated by lawsuits, medical records and hundreds of state and federal inspection reports — show NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals was repeatedly cited for serious violations, including the federal government's most serious warning, and was the subject of hundreds of substantiated complaints over the past decade.

Trapped inside the 'scariest place' — a psychiatric hospital in Indiana
A mother called the Greenwood police when she could not get answers from a psychiatric hospital that claimed her daughter was being held there under a court order.
Turns out, there was no order.
@farrahsoa investigated the longstanding concerns about oversight and care at NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals chain. First story out now... link below
the first part of my yearlong investigation for @wfyi is out today.
immensely grateful to the dozens of sources who spoke to me for this story, and my exceptional editors @ericweddle, @Farah_Yousry, and @kkelkar.
Hundreds of residents packed an open-house meeting Tuesday night in Decatur Township in southwest Marion County, where developers outlined plans for a proposed data center on industrial-zoned land.
@farrahsoa’s story on the meeting, link in thread
