Stand-off forming outside Hochul’s state Capitol office as tax-the-rich activists get ready to get arrested for staying after hours
… but this time progressive legislators are forming a wall in between activists and state troopers
.@NYSDOHMEDICAID director "No. We believe [home care workers] should be paid higher than min wage"
So why does this year's budget return home care workers to min wage in the midst of NY's worst in the nation shortage?
@GovKathyHochul which side are you on?
#FairPay4HomeCare
👏 @LindaBRosenthal: "Does DOH believe home care workers should be paid minimum wage?"
We took a baby step toward #FairPay4HomeCare last year - this year, @GovKathyHochul wants to roll this back by returning workers to minimum wage 😠
Follow thread for @NYSDOHMEDICAID response
In case you missed the moment - @HealthNYGov admitting home care workers will be frozen and return to minimum wage - We need #FairPay4HomeCare to end NY’s dangerous worker shortage. Thank you @AmyPaulin for asking this question
@superaleja_ I know him! Council Member Chris Hinds has served his district well. I am angry and ashamed of my city. Cleo has had this space for years. Aways talked about making the space more accessible. My daughter's performances there and it is a PITA just to get to the audience seating
If @GovKathyHochul doesn’t fund #FairPayforHomeCare, older adults & disabled people will continue to:
❌ sleep in their wheelchairs
❌ miss meal
❌ be forced into nursing homes
We know fair wages are the only way to end NY’s home care crisis.
Public safety is about housing, it’s about healthcare, it’s about education and economic stability. We can’t criminalize and overpolice our way to public safety solutions – we need investment in support structure. #StateOfTheStateNY
Last year @GovKathyHochul committed to invest $7bil over 4 years in childcare. Looking forward to seeing the details to make this promise a reality. NY families need #UniversalChildcare and providers need quality wages & benefits. #SOS2023
"A gutless housing plan engineered to appease @GovKathyHochul's wealthy donors while doing nothing to help the people who are hurting most."
Our statement on @GovKathyHochul's 2023 State of the State.
Why won’t @GovKathyHochul tax the rich? She says in #StateOfTheStateNY she won’t raise taxes to help the middle class so I’m asking who are we making NY more liveable for? The wealthy are living just fine…
We don’t have to fund healthcare OR housing. We can boldly fund basic needs and services by pushing back on austerity to pass the #InvestInOurNY package. If we wanna make a difference we must tax the rich to make bold investments in what keeps NYers safe. #StateOfTheStateNY
Can’t say I’ve ever heard a New York governor say the words “housing is a human right” before.
To ensure that right, @GovKathyHochul must make billionaires and wealthy corporations pay what they owe to fund huge new investments in affordable social housing. #InvestInOurNY
.@GovKathyHochul - the #NYStateOfTheState can’t be strong w/o access to home care. End the “Goldilocks” cuts to home care eligibility. #RestoreHomeCare so those deemed ‘not disabled enough’ & those ‘too disabled’ still can live in the community.
Someone tell @GovKathyHochul that tying housing to services is makes treatment coercive. Someone shouldn't have to deal w. a particular service provider for their housing. Shows that NY continues to focus on the needs of providers over the needs of people. #CripTheVote#NYSoTS
