📢✊ Fixing social care starts with the people holding the system together.
@AndreaEganGS responds to the PM’s #Lab26 speech, calling for better pay and conditions and a reversal of plans to make migrant care workers wait 15 years for settlement.

Today, migrant care workers are taking their message directly to Labour conference - keep your promise to the workers who came to the UK to care for our communities.
They'll be joined by @AndreaEganGS and others.

Absolutely correct.
You can’t claim to be the party of workers and then shaft care workers retrospectively - which is what the Home Offices’s ILR reforms do.
They’re a travesty and those supporting them should hang their heads in utter, bloody shame.
More from the brilliant @unisontheunion campaign defending them here.

Angela Rayner is right.
Why should workers on health and social care visas who have come here to look after our loved ones have to wait 15 years for settlement?
It is economically and morally wrong and will damage our health and social care system.
My mum was a care worker and came to this country in the 1970s from
the Philippines. I also know, from my own current family experience, like so many people in our country, the critical role that carers play and how much we need them.

On the eve of Labour conference, UNISON general secretary Andrea Egan has urged the government to listen to migrant health and care workers and those, like Angela Rayner, speaking out against plans to extend the wait for permanent residency.
Labour must keep its promise to end exploitative zero-hours contracts.
Reform of zero-hours contracts could be transformational, but only if the government listens to workers’ needs, not employer scaremongering. https://t.co/czfwuozVUd
"There is modern slavery happening right now."
Migrant care workers are told to stay silent, accept poor treatment and endure exploitation because they are tied to a single employer.
It's a system that traps workers with abusive employers.
We need a better way. #FairVisasNow
On Monday, UNISON members from across the country will come together outside Labour Party Conference in Liverpool to demand a fair visa system for migrant care workers.

No care service without us ✊ Care workers hold our social care system together.
We need a national care service to deliver care people can rely on.
That means better pay, safer staffing and decent conditions for all – plus security and justice for migrant care workers.
