It amazes me every time I watch these Le Mans videos without the chicanes. If anything was to go wrong it really is a plane crash and we witnessed this with the Mercedes in 1999. Itโs the closest these boys were to the Isle Of Man TT riders but on 4 wheels. ๐ช๐ผ๐ช๐ผ๐๐๐

Amazing onboard footage of the Mazda 767B sitting at approximately 230 mph down the Mulsanne Straight prior to the two chicanes being introduced in 1990.
It is said that 248mph was achieved by other teams.
For the second year running, Mazda got all three cars home, crossing the line in their own formation finish. Kennedy and Dieudonnรฉ took their third consecutive class-win, coming in 7th overall. They covered just shy of 5000ย km (almost 3100ย miles) which was 32 laps further than Mazda had ever done at Le Mans. Their team-mates finished 9th and 12th.

During lap 80 of the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix, Scuderia Lancia driver - Alberto Ascari - makes an error at the Nouvelle Chicane & plummets into the harbour. #F1
It was all a result of riding the right hand curb and then putting him off the racing line. Unlucky for the car to land the way it did.

Practice
During the first qualifying session on Friday, October 30, 1987, Mansell was pushing hard to improve upon a time set by his Williams-Honda teammate and title rival, Nelson Piquet. While attempting to navigate the high-speed "S-curves" at approximately 200 km/h, Mansell lost control of his Williams FW11B.ย
The car spun and collided backward with the outer tire barrier, causing the vehicle to become airborne before crashing heavily back onto the track
Mansell suffered severe spinal bruising and was in significant pain. He was airlifted to a hospital in Nagoya. Although he did not suffer any broken bones, the medical team declared him unfit to participate in the remainder of the event.
Because Mansell was the only driver still mathematically capable of catching Piquet in the points standings, his forced withdrawal meant that Nelson Piquet was crowned the 1987 World Champion before the race had even begun.ย
Mansell missed both the Japanese Grand Prix and the final round of the season in Australia due to his recovery, cementing a disappointing end to a closely fought season.

This was a mega era. If these cars were any quicker I think they would have needed some serious aero to keep the front of the car on the circuit. Look at the front wheels coming off the ground over the rise! ๐ณ๐ช๐ผ๐

In the 1990 Bathurst 1000, Jim Richards and Mark Skaife drove the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R for Gibson Motorsport.
While they were a formidable pairing, and the car as seen was beyond fast, they finished in 18th place overall, completing 146 laps.
Development issues were so severe that the team actually swapped their race car for the "T-car" (spare car) on the night before the race, in an attempt to solve ongoing mechanical niggles.
The 1990 race was famously won by Allan Grice and Win Percy in a Holden VL Commodore SS Group A SV.
It is worth noting that while 1990 was not their year at Mount Panorama, the Richards and Skaife combination in the Nissan Skyline GT-R went on to dominate the following two years, winning the Bathurst 1000 in both 1991 and 1992.

In 1994, the field was incredibly tight, and the short, tight confines of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit forced drivers into extremely close quarters.
Because both John and Andy were experienced, "no-nonsense" racers, their battles frequently resulted in door-banging and aggressive defensive maneuvers. This is footage of one such battle where the two are on the limit trying to battle for the final podium place.
1994 was a transitional year where the dominance of the Alfa Romeo 155s (with their controversial wings) forced everyone elseโincluding Cleland and Rouseโto drive at 110% just to stay in contention. This contributed to the highly combative nature of the mid-pack and podium battles.
While the history books show the dominant performances of Tarquini and the factory Alfas, the "spirit" of the 1994 season is defined by the scrap-happy nature of drivers like Cleland and Rouse, who were fighting for every scrap of championship honor available.
1994 was the final season Rouse would compete in the BTCC.

A Fantastic battle between Dick and Mark during the opening stages of the great race.
However, in the closing stages of the race, a severe rainstorm with hail hit the Mount Panorama circuit turning it into a treacherous, icy trap.
Numerous cars crashed including the race-leading Nissan of Jim Richards, which had a race ending badly damaged front left tyre and suspension before aquaplaning into the wreckage of several other cars near the top of mountain straight.ย
Because the track was deemed too dangerous to continue, race officials brought out the red flag. Under the regulations at the time, race results were counted back to the end of the last completed lap before the red flagโwhich was Lap 143.
Because Richards and Skaife were leading on that lap, they were declared the winners, despite their car being sidelined in a crash
Dick Johnson and John Bowe, driving a Shell-sponsored Ford Sierra RS500, crossed the finish line "first" on the track after the race had been red-flagged. Believing they had won, Johnson celebrated, only to be informed later that the count-back rule gave the victory to the crashed Nissan.
There was a very famous heated moment between Richards, Skaife and the crowd during the podium celebrations.
This was the final year of the Group A regulations in Australia. The following year, the sport transitioned to the "Group 3A" rules, which laid the foundation for what would eventually become the V8 Supercars championship.ย

Patrese was running a fantastic 3rd overall when a stone burst the radiator of his Williams FW12C sending fluid all over his rear slick tyres.
What followed was a very large accident at Club Corner which he would have been approaching at around 150mph.
The Williams was completely destroyed but amazingly Patrese as seen is able to walk away.
Crazy when you see how big this was yet you hardly ever see it being shown.
Silverstone IMO was so much better in the past but clearly the safety aspect wasnโt so good.
